Please call me if you need any additional information. Thank you. Andrea Fiscus-Munoz Project Coordinator G&M OIL COMPANY, INC. (714) 375-4700 x 327 afiscus@gmoc.com 4/14/2004 1 G&M Oil # 124 17472 Beach Blvd. @ Slater Huntington Beach , California Sign Code Exception No. 04-02 for 7' - 6 '/2" high monument sign is compatible with the character of the area and is needed for special circumstances defined by the applicant and approved by the Planning Director. The site previously had a freestanding pole sign, which we were willing to take down to come into compliance, but State Law requires us to provide price signs at a certain height. That, along with the requirements by the City of Huntington Beach makes it impossible to meet City code height requirements and still meet state law requirements. Other businesses do not have the same sign requirements mandated for fuel pricing signs, which therefore created special circumstances for this location. The proposed signage will not adversely affect other signs in the area because there are not other service stations located at this intersection; they are all commercial businesses with signs that are larger than the sign we are requesting. The sign will be in keeping with what has been approved for that area, more specifically the Walgreen's and Del Taco. The proposed signage will not be detrimental to properties located in the vicinity. The sign will be located within a planter area to protect the sign and the site is not located within a residential area, and the sign is similar in height and area to the adjacent surrounding businesses The proposed signage will not obstruct vehicular or pedestrian traffic visibility and will not be a hazardous distraction. The proposed sign will be located away from the intersection as far into the planter area as possible , and will still provide visibility to vehicular and pedestrian traffic. The sign is unobtrusive and is not overly large, so it will not be a hazardous distraction more so than any other sign along Beach Blvd. • Page 1 of 1 Ramos, Ricky From: Andrea Fiscus-Munoz [Afiscus@gmoc com] Sent: Wednesday, April 14, 2004 4:04 PM To: Ramos, Ricky Subject: RE* G&M Oil # 124 No, the laws are the same, but we order the signs from Chevron and all of our Chevron stations have diesel fuel, so we have four grades of gas to post, unlike most Chevron owned and operated stations, they have only three products. My sign could fit at 7'- 0" if I didn't have to do the cap at the top (as required by Design Review) and make enough space for the address at the bottom. That's why I'm saying I 'm stuck between the State and the City. -----Original Message----- From : Ramos, Ricky [mailto:rramos@surfcity-hb.org] Sent : Wednesday, April 14, 2004 4:01 PM To: Andrea Fiscus-Munoz Subject : RE: G&M Oil # 124 Andrea - Thanks for your response. I'm still unclear about the State Law requirement because we have relatively new service stations that comply with the 7 foot height limit Was there a recent change to State Law that is forcing any new service station monument sign to exceed our code? -----Original Message----- From : Andrea Fiscus-Munoz [mailto:Afiscus@gmoc.com] Sent : Wednesday, April 14, 2004 3:24 PM To: rramos@surfcity-hb.org Subject : G&M Oil # 124 Ricky, Here are the findings you requested. Please add the dimensions of the triangles (25' x 25' and 10' x 10') just like I showed on the fax I sent you. 2. Include the address on the base with 6 inch numerals. 3. As noted on the cover of the fax I sent you Friday, please add the dimensions of the sign cabinet on the plan so that we can verify the face area calculations you have on plan (max 50 sf). 4. Include a copy of the Notice of Action with the plans. 5. As required by the DRB and PSP approval, please note the color of the stucco columns and cornice cap (Havana Cream?) as well as the slate tile base to match that on the building. 6. Note the monument sign height from adjacent sidewalk or curb to highest point of sign. 7. I noticed that on the colored monument sign elevation that was processed by Paul and approved by the DRB and Planning Director, it says "24 Hours" under the Chevron Hallmark. The plans you submitted for the SCE say "Food Mart". Please change that back to "24 Hours" as a food mart is not permitted w/o a CUP. What time are you coming tomorrow? I'll be the back up at the counter in the afternoon and can help you then but if you want to come in the morning I can try and fill in the planner working at the counter in the morning. -----Original Message----- From: Andrea Fiscus-Munoz [mailto:Afiscus@gmoc.com] Sent: Monday, April 19, 2004 8:37 AM To: rramos@surfcity-hb.org Subject: FW: #124, H.B.
