The Strand is seeking an approval to locate and operate (8) eight free standing carts on private property sidewalk along
5th Street between Walnut Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway. The proposed carts are located on
"Exterior Cart Locations (Landscape Plan)". All carts along 5' Street sidewalk shall maintain a 10'
clear sidewalk width toward building and designated outdoor seating area.
Cart Dimensions:
-Length: 8'-0"
-Width: 3'-10"
•Height: 6'-5" with levelers at bottom of cart (actual cart box height is approximately 6'-0") Vertical Clearance
to Underside of Umbrella: 6'-11"
Proposed Use:
Outdoor retail carts (cellular phones, fashion jewelry, newspapers/ magazines, mobile electronics and accessories, flip
flops, sundries, candy stand, candles, arts & crafts)
Hours of Operation:
Hour of operation shall be consistent with the surrounding retailers at the Strand. At minimum, the cart hours of
operation will be 1 OAM to 6PM (M-F). Saturday, Summer and Holiday hours of operation may be
extended to be consistent with the surrounding retailers at the Strand. Sunday hours of operation may
be shorten to be consistent with surrounding retailers at the Strand.
Number of Employees:
Maximum (2) two employees per cart.
Surrounding Uses (along 5thStreet):
•North (Walnut Street): Commercial retails, offices and residential
•South (PCH): Beach access and limited beach restaurants
-East (5th & Main Street): Commercial retails and offices (e.g., Merilee Wear, Johnny Rocket, New Zealander)
-West (5th Street and 6thStreet): Commercial retails (e.g., Forever 21, Active Endeavors, Rip Curl, CVS, Ra Sushi,
Zimzala Restaurant) and Shorebreak Hotel
Description of Population Served by the Proposed Use or Project:
Local residents, regional and out-of-state tourists visiting Huntington Beach for sun and relaxation, surfing invitations,
beach volleyball tournaments, events during major holidays
Compliance:
Carts shall comply to Huntington Beach Zoning and Subdivision Ordinance Section 230.94.
Neighborhood Notification:
(152) One Hundred and Fifty Two Neighborhood residents and businesses within 300' radius of the Strand property
have been notified of this application per the notification letter dated October 28, 2008 via USPS.
