SUBJECT: LIMITED SIGN PERMIT NO. 89-4

Y:. jr request to replace the sign faces on an existing roof mounted pole sign and extend
the use of the sign for 2 years cannot be processed. Staff in its review of the application
determined that the existing roof mounted pole sign is a prohibited sign. Pursuant to
Article 961 (Signs) of the Huntington Beach Ordinance Code a prohibited sign cannot be
processed for entitlement. Article 961 states the following:
Section 9610.8(c) Limited Si n Permit: A limited sign permit cannot be processed
for signs listed as prohibited in Section 9610.4.
Section 9610.4(f) Prohibited Signs: Roof signs as defined by this Article.
Section 9610.10(34) Definitions Roof sign: An attached sign constructed upon or
over a roof, or placed so as to extend above the visible roofline; or a freestanding
sign which is greater in height than the building it serves to identify.
Based upon Staffs interpretation of Article 961 (Signs) of the Huntington Beach Ordinance
Code your request for a limited sign permi> cannot be processed. Please submit a letter
of entitlement withdrawal for you request and the Planning Division will refund your filing
fee.
