Exceeds Code by 76 sq.ft. As noted in the preceding matrix, a wall or roof sign is not included in the comparisons. According to the Code, Section 9610.4(f), roof signs are prohibited. Staff Report - 6/7/88 -2-(0665d) The applicant has already changed their signs and is currently in violation of City Code . The Kinney Shoe Corporation has changed the name of its stores that primarily sell athletic type shoes and this is the reason the change of sign facia has occurred. Staff is recommending approval of the freestanding sign face change for maximum two years but not for the roof sign. It is recommended that the roof sign be removed . The pole sign, standing 20 feet high with 106 square feet of area provides more than adequate visibility for motorists and pedestrians. Therefore , the removal of the roof sign would not cause the Kinney Shoe Corporation any hardship from the lack of inadequate signage with which to attract potential customers . As permitted by Code , a building identification sign could be installea on the building wall or hanging from the canopy in place of the roof sign. 10.0 RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the Planning Commission approve Limited Sign Permit No . 88-2 for the freestanding sign only with the following findings and conditions of approval.
