1.0 SUGGESTED ACTION
Administrative Action No. 83-5 is a request by the applicant to change
the copy on an existing 26 foot, 7 inch high, 178 square foot free-
standing sign. The change of copy on the existing sign i s inten6ed to
identify a new business (The Good Earth RRestaurant) which will Occupy
the existing building. an the subject property
The existing nonconforming sign was permitted on July 9., 197I. At the
time, the sign code permitted a foot high sign to be located at the
property line. Sign area was based on the, lineal frontage of the sub-
sect property. The existing sign is nonconforming for a number of
reasons ; The existing sign is 6 feet 7 inches higher than the present,
code would permit. The area of the existing sign is 78 square feet
larger than the code permits,The existing sign contains a,changeable
copy panel which is no longer a permitted sign-type F i."s?1n the Ordi-
nance code. The existing freestanding sign is also e:onsidexed nonr-
conforming because of its relative location to the southerly property
line.. The current sign.code requires a , freestanding sign to : st "back
one foot for each two square feet of sign area. Using this.formula,
the'existing sign would be required to set back approximately 89 feet
from the southerly property line: This sign is set back from the
southerly property line on Damask Drive approximately 23 feet.
