HomeMy WebLinkAboutAdministrative Permit VAR2005008 - Project Description (2)Application Requirement # 15 Re: 1013 Alabama St, I would like to convert the two-car garage into a pool or recreation room adding approximately 200 square feet to an existing 400 square foot garage. I would be using this area for ping-pong, billiards and TV. A small portion to be a bathroom and a laundry room with a washer and dryer. I have no access to the garage by way of a vehicle, only by foot. The garage door originally opened to the north. The access to the garage was from the lot next door, on the north side of this property. That lot was sold many years ago and a house was built preventing any access to the garage by a , vehicle larger than three feet wide. On the East Side of the garage is the two-bedroom house that sets on this lot with the garage. Across the street continuing east is an apartment building with a parking lot just off the street. To the South is another apartment building with its driveway and parking between my lot and their building. On the West Side of my garage is what I call the greenbelt owned by the City. It is approximately 75 feet wide and runs for miles behind the homes on Alabama. Continuing West is a private driveway owned by the homeowners on Lake St. The area would be used by a family of four living in the home at the front of the property. The front house is pretty small and this room would be utilized for playing games, socializing and watching television. This property is not located within a Hazardous Waste and Substance site pursuant to Section 65962.5 of the Government Code. Thank you, W/~ Kathleen A. Believe me, I would love it if I had a garage, parking is a major problem around this area. I've called and asked the City of Huntington Beach if I could buy a portion of the greenbelt behind me so that I could get to my garage. The answer was the property is not for sale now or in the future. The building as a garage is useless just an empty building. At least if it were some kind of game room and laundry area it would be useful. I noticed there are many other older homes in Huntington Beach without a garage. Some homes have added square footage to the back of the existing house and others have added what looks like a grandmothers quarters. I just want some kind of playroom for the kids when it rains or is just cold. The two-bedroom house that in front of the garage is very small, approximately 500 square feet, not much room to do anything other than eat and sleep. There is a living room, but it is such close quarters that the entire house can here the TV or a conversation. Having a recreation where we could put the TV and some other activities would certainly make life much . nIcer. I have improved the looks of the property and quality of occupants in this house since I have been the owner. This property was purchase as three one- bedroom apartments. I immediately evicted the drug dealer in the back unit, the drug user in the front unit and the pimp in the middle unit. I cleaned and painted the place and rented to some very nice people. Code enforcement informed me about a year ago that I could only have a single house on this property. I discovered that code enforcement has been trying to get this property converted back to a single family resident since about 1979. Looked like every time the owner received a notice they sold the property. I am the first one that is trying to make this right. I have had nothing but problems trying to get this done. I've converted the two one- bedroom apartments back into a house. The back apartment into something other than an apartment. What's the point of having a garage if I can't get to it to park a car? I don't want it to be an apartment or a grandmother quarters. Just a room that I can use to wash cloths, watch TV and give the kids some room to roam. Thank You, A4d'~J Kathleen A. Kampen Owner
