Hope I'm doing this right. Eek. The plan is to upgrade the only master bathroom in the house to accommodate my handicap mother and/or ourselves (when we get older, 40 to 50 years older) while making sure that the home retains its resale value. We have discovered that the most cost effective, beautiful way to do this is by adding 2 feet more space to the side wall of the bathroom. We would like to level out the floor, expand the shower to accommodate a seat, and push the sink into the new 2 by 6 foot space. Please see the drawing. The sink will have storage on both sides and be open in the middle so that a wheel chair or bench can be put in front of the sink without blocking leg room. We also plan to widen the entrance to the bathroom by 36". It is currently only about 2 feet. In the end it will almost be up to perfect public handicap standards and will be more than enough help for mom other than what I, personally, can give her. She came home from the hospital about 4 days ago and, although, she is obese, she can function with a walker about half the time. Her health, unfortunately, doesn't seem to be getting better so I'm trying to be proactive. As for details and design, I would love to do clean white/ grey modern lines and colors— easy to clean and beautiful. A larger window over the sink wall to make the space feel bigger. I have a designer friend that's helping me, but to keep costs down I hope to do a lot of it my self... which brings me to services, hours, and employees part of the request. I am an independently employed ballet teacher. I love my job and I'm so so lucky but this entire house, project, my Mom, and bills is all on my shoulders. I have saved $10,000 dollars and may have to do things one bit at a time. I do not currently have any time lines or contractors set up. I'm essentially spending 4.5 hours a day caring for my mom and then working full time on top of that. If I get approval from you, I plan to do everything right— I'm a pIeaser- but I can't justify spending piles of money or time getting everything set up if I'm not approved. Ultimately, I'm really trying to do the right thing for my mom, my family and for whom ever lives in the house in the future. This will make the house more beautiful, way more functional and even give future residence options. The house is one story so it could end up being the perfect place to grow old in, or maybe a family with handicap children would be grateful for the space. For now, mom and a functional bathroom is priority but who knows.. Thank you for you consideration and I hope I've answered all questions. If not, my information is at the top of this request. Thanks again, Rebecca RECENED NOV 29 201? Dept of Community Development
