A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH OPPOSING AB 202 WHEREAS, the Senate Committee on Governmental Efficiency has approved AB 202, and has sent such bill to the floor of the Senate with a "do pass" recommendation; and Such bill would extend the Brown Act to apply to any ad- visory committee whether composed solely of public officials or solely of citizens, or a combination of public officials and citizens, and would apply to either elected or appointed public officers or employees; and The City of Huntington Beach and other local governmental agencies appoint a wide variety of advisory committees to study and investigate specific projects and report back to the public body, and most of these advisory committees meet only once or twice and their work is completed; and AB 202 would require a regular meeting time and place, and notice of any special meeting, and such meetings would have to be held in a place accessible to the public rather than in one of the member's homes or some other convenient location; and To require publication of the time and place of such meet- ings would cause an undue burden upon the city, as well as impose a burden upon the committees attempting to provide a needed public service, NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach does hereby declare that it is opposed to AB 202 and does hereby recommend that the Senate defeat AB 202 for the reasons set forth hereinabove.
