Dear Mr. Cleveland;
At the time of preparing the foundz:tions for t= e above
mentioned building it was necessary to change the straight
friction piles to caission type because of a Water condition
in the drilled holes. At the time I made an in.-Pection
of this condition, at the request of the proje,..-t superin
tendent for Jackson Brothers, Contractors.
We checked the job conditions, and calculatirnt proved
that the wedge of earth that held the bell cassion against
uplift was greater than the surface Friction load of the
straight pile.
This; is w ittan to clarify this matter and be considered
a change.in plan ,for the record
Thank you, I remain

Dear Mr. Cleveland:
We have inspvcted the cracked front wall panel at the
above job and conclude the .following:
(1) . The panel was structurally designed to .span
horizoy tal„`.fir between the surrounding pilasters wi tk -its.
,Later -.gal 1oz;d di st*xibuted to the floor and roof tax%ugh
;these pilas'"ters'. A ho-rizontal crack wound. then be accept
*ble for lateral loads normal to the waIJ faces
(2). The pilasters were checked and found that they
could carry the wall she .-►_ loads that are parallel. to the
wall.
(S) It is our recommendation that the cracks be
repaired using the 9eal and S eal" process (as maiiaf`actkre
by the Furane .ompany) This process has been in common
usage over a nurrsber of years providing a structural re-
pair for broken concrete. It is a process that we have
used ourselves and found: suk,,cessfulin the rehabilitation
of a six-stbx y concrete hotel building, the Xepair of
`Which was approved by the Departi c,-ret of Building & Safety,,

Bri6ge Design Division, Department of Public Works, City
of''Los Angeles, has used the material in structural re-
pair of several Los Angeles City owned bridges. This
material, which is an epoxy filler and bindex, is pumped
into the cracks under high pressure flowing through the
cracks and out vents and inspection holes, Tests of this
material show that the shear compxession and bonding
capacity of the mal.-erial is higher than the native concrete.
If this method of repair is not acceptable to you, would
you please advise us at your earliest convenience.
