Change of occupancy or use inspection fee. Whenever it is necessary to make inspection of a building or

different group of occupancy, a change of occupancy inspection fee of $ shall

4. Huntington Beach Fir( -'ode Section 10.208 requires that building numbers must be a minimum of four (4)
F C� inches in height with one half (1/2) inch stroke, and of a contrasting color frorn the background. These
numbers must be posted on your building in a location that is visible from the street.
5. Huntington Beach Fire Code Section 10.301 requires fire extinguisher selection and distribution per the
National Fire Protection Association pamphlet 10 (see reverse side).

Government Code Section 65850.2(b) requires that the City of Huntington Beach not issue the final
certificate of occupancy unless the applicant has met or is meeting the requirements of the South
Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD). The Department of Community Development must
obtain a written release from AQMD to show the applicant has complied with this law. The check
list on the reverse side is designed to help the applicant and the building division to meet these
requirements. f
1. The applicant (the same person who applies for permits from the
Department of Community Development) must complete the check list
which can be obtained either from the Department of Community
Development or at AQMD.

2. If all braes in the list are checked "no", the Building Division can accept the
check list as the release.

3. If there are any "yes" answers in the list, the applicant must contact an
i AQMD engineer by calling (714) 396-2000 to find out whether air permits are
a required for the proposed construction project. l
4. If air permits are not required, the applicant will obtain a written release from
AQMD.
5. If air permits are required, the applicant must submit the necessary permit i
applications before the release can be issued.

Because of the time it may take for AQMD to go through the above procedures, the applicant is
advised to contact AQMD Immediately after applying for building permits.

EXITS AND EXIT CORRIDORS must be maintained clear and unobstructed at all times. The storage
of material on any stairway or under any open stairwell is prohibited.

AISLES are to be maintained clear and unobstructed with a minimum clear width of 36 inches or as

i' maintained in good repair.
BUILDING ADDRESS NUMBERS are required on all businesses at the main entrance from a public
street oi• highway. Numbers shall be at least six inches in height for multi -family and commercial i
occupancies and ten inches for industrial occupancies. Individual units and tenant spaces mist be a
minimum height of four inches. s
FII�' �`rr;RTMErn 1 pERTiIITS are required for the storage and use of flammable and combustible
quids, hazardous materials and chemicals. These permits must be displayed at the place of business.
FLAMM" E AND COMBUSTIBLE LIQUIDS stored in quantities of ten gallons or more inside ,
the bu!:I ding must be placed in an approved storage locker. All liquids must be stored in original
containers with tight fitting lids. Open containers are prohibited.

I STORAGE shall be orderly, not to endanger exiting and shall have a minimum clearance of two feet
1 between the ceiling and top of storage. Eighteen inches clearance shall be required ik all sprinklered
buildings.
HEATING EQUIPMENT ROOMS shall not be used for the storage of combustible materials.

EXTENSION CORDS are permitted on a "temporary" basis only. They may not be used in place of
building wiring.
COMBUSTIBLE RUBBISH OILY RAGS OR WASTE MATERIAL kept within a building, shall
be stored in metal containers with tight fitting lids.
FIRE EXTINGUISHERS are required to be serviced annually or after each use. Hood systems require
semi-annual service or after each use. All services shall be conducted by a state licensed agent.
I FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEMS require owner/operator to conduct quarterly maintenance inspections
j on sprinkler syste= and semi-atnually on standpipe systems. State Fire Marshal authorized
certification of both systems is required at five year intervals. Maintenance inspection and certification
service records must be kept readily available for Fire Inspectors.
