Pursuant to adjournment of April 14th, the Board of Truss tees of the City of Huntington Beach met in regular session a and was called to order at 8 oclock P.M. by President Vavra. Roll Call . Trustees present Vavra, Drew , Chapin and Manning. Absent Decker ., Health Officer Dr. Shank , City Health Officer was present and ,talked on Dairy and with. the Board as to the advisibility of having. a more Milk Inspection thorough inspection of Dairies and Milk, suggested that .' samples of milk be sent to Santa Ana Hospital about twice each month for bacteriological test and that the cost would probably be about $4.00 per month, no action was taken but the Board requested the Doctor to find out if it could be i so handled and appeared to favor the proposition. Painting Following bids were reported by the Clerk as having i Pier Railing . been received for the labor, of painting railing of Pier: W. R. Higgins , $47 .50 ' Fred Cook , 52 .00 A. R. Clark , 92 .00, the Clerk explained that he had not seen the last bidder not knowing • that he was doing contracting and that perhaps the bid in- cluded material ., and it was W.R.Higgins Moved by Trustee Drew, seconded by .Trustee Mannin that bid accepted. the contract be let to Mr. W. R. Higgins at price bid h47 .50) under the supervision of the Supt . of Streets. and that the City, Attorney draw up contract . Put and carried n Clerk to Clerk was instructed to order' paint , having received order paint . quotation of of $1.75 per gal., in 5 gal , lots from Mr. Day of the Bituminous Products Co. Complaint of Mrs. Clark , residing on 22nd St . was present and com- 9eeds , plained about the weeds on sidewalks and at crossings. Amusement Mr. Jacobs , presented a proposition to the Board to Concession put up an amusement which he said was new to the coast , I Want ed , called a "Dart Board" suggested that if the city would con- struct a small pavilion under the Pier he would furnish all paraphernalia and labor and give the city 50 f of receipts . The situation was explained to him in regard to pro- Committee posed pavilion and it was moved by Trustee Manning seconded Appointed . by Trustee Chapin that the Dha$zmappof the Board appoint a committee of two to cooperate with Mr. Jacobs in finding a. location. Put and carried. The Chairman appointed Trustees Manning and Chapin -on ,this committee . So .Coast Imp..,. The .Clerk reported that he had got in touch with the Assn. to Autho,riti��es 'at Newport Reach and learned that that city had receive , voted .t o ,pay to the South Coast Improvement Assn. $75.00 per $50.00 per month for the next three months , and it was moved by True- month for tee Chapin seconded by Trustee Manning that the city day to Three mos. the So .Coast Imp. Assn. the sum of $50.00 per month from the Music & Promotion Fund for the months of April .. May and June . Put and carried . Camping Ground In regard to the- City Camping Ground Mr, Drew proposed Block 105 . Lots 1 to 7 inclusive in Block 103 and that he had secured the names and addresses of all the owners and that Mr. C. D. Heartwell was quite certain that the necessary permission Mr . Heartwell can be secured and it was to write Moved by Trustee Drew seconded by Trustee Manning that j owners Mr. Heartwell be authorized by the Board of Trustees to get secure per the permission of the owners to use the lots mentioned and mission, to offer an annual rental equal to the Municipal Taxes and to agree that all weeds would be kept down., for the season j of 1919 . Playground yg The matter of Playground was brought up and equipment Equipment . was discussed, it was advised that there were some tebeer 1 boards in the City Hall that had never been put up because i necessary irons had not been obtainable and Chairman Vavra suggested that all that was needed was some two inch pipe Street Supt . and some iron straps and it was moved by Trustee Drew, to place seconded by Trustee Chapin that the 'Suet .of Streets be au— Teeter boards . t horized to put up the Teeters on the beach. Put and carried. Stairs at Stairs to beach at 12th St . After some discussion it 12th Street . was moved by Trustee Chapin seconded by Trustee Manning that Street Supt . the Supt .of Streets be authorized to have the stairs replaced to replace . from bluff to beach at 12th street . Put and carried . Marshal made The City Marshal being present made verbal report of verbal rept . his work at Long Reach and San Pedro. of v ook at He had talked with and distributed literattre to many j Long Reach ship yard workers in each place and found that the only and reason that results were not evident was the uncertainty San Pedro . of the jobs , that some 1200 had been laid off in the past few weeks , that the men would like to come but figured that if they lost their. job there, there being no employment here , 1 they would have the expense of another move very soon and suggested that a small advertisment be inserted in the Ship Builders paper in San Pedro and in a Long Beach Paper. i East Side Bar. French brought up the matter of petition from the Water System people of the East Side for Bond election to purchase the � water system of the East Side Water Co . and explained to the Board the matter. of the option on the plant and the way the people of the East Side felt on the matter and it *was Olmsted and Loved by Trustee Drew, seconded by Trustee 'Manning that- the Gillelen to Engineering firm of Olmsted and Gillelen be employed to ,make be employed necessary survey of the present system and estimate of value to make and such other matters as required by law to be filed in - report < report as .necessary preliminary to calling the election. Put and carried.Atty . instructed Moved by Trustee Drew , seconded by Trustee Manning that to dray? the City Attorney .be instructed to draw up ordinance fixing f. Salary Ord ., the salary of the City Recorder ,at Five Dollars per month. II Put and carried. j . I Adjourned .
