MINUTES FOR The Minutes of the Meetings for 'the month of August
MONTH OF were read and approved.
° AUGUST:
Monthly reports of the City Clerk, City Treasurer,
Gas Department, Street Superintendent, Public Library,
i and CitykRec.�ordere were read, and on motion of Trustee
Onson, seconded by Trustee Obarr, approved and ordered

placed on file.
Communications received as follows: Letter from the
Southern Pacific Land Company was read, requesting
I� information as to the price paid for the tract of
�i land purchased from Mills Land & Water Company.
�l' Also the call of the California League of Municipalities
for the Convention - September 19th to 23rd.
On motion by Trustee Obarr, seconded by Trustee Onson, .
these communications were ordered placed on file.
APPLICATION RE Letter from Mr. G. A. Schwabland was presented, setting
SUPERVISING PATTING forth a proposal to render service to the city in the
OPERATIONS : matter of supervising paving operations as Consulting
Engineer and conducting laboratory investigations as to
' the most desirable class of paving work for this vicinity.
This letter was read and Mr. Schwabland being present,
addressed the Board, giving further explanation of his
proposal,and it was agreed he would come before the Board
at a later date with a definite proposition®
i� RESIGNA.TION OF The resignation of Mr. C. R. Sumner, City Engineer, was
C. R. , SUMNER, presented, requesting immediate action. On motion by
CITY ENGIINEER: Trustee Andrews, seconded by Trustee Obarr, Mr. Sumner°s
resignation was accepted to take effect immediately.
BOND FOR The Surety Bond for VV. R. Wright, City Clerk, in the
CITY CLERK: amount of $1000, written by the American Surety Con,,
New York, was presented, and on motion of Trustee Obarr,
seconded by Trustee Onson, same was approved and turned
j over to President Drew, in accordance with the provisions
of-the City Ordinance.
OR.1.7INANC;E AIMNDING On motion of Trustee Andrews, seconded by Trustee Obarr,
ORDINANCE #68 WHICH- the City Attorney was instructed to prepare an Ordinance,
SPECIFIES THE- BpUaVot amending Ordinance #68 which specifies the boundaries of
DARIES OF FIY�E Fire. Distriet #1. The Ordinance was prepared and given
1 DIST. J1 first reading, being #249 amending Ordinance #68, setting
forth the new boundaries of Fire. District #1.
TAX RATE FOR 1922- This being the time for fixing. the tax rate for 1922-23
23 TAXES: taxes, on motion' ,of Trustee Obarr, seconded by Trustee
Onson, resolution. #385,,, a copy of which is included in
these Minutes , was adopted, by the following vote:

"A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF TEE
CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH, CALIFORNIA, FIXING THE TAX
RATE FOR THE SAID CITY FOR THE FISCAL YEAR 1922-23. �
WHEREAS, the assessed valuation of the taxable property
of the City of Huntington Beach, California, as assessed by the
City Assessor and fixed by the Board of Equalization of said
City for the fiscal year 1922-23 is $59456,217.00 and
WHEF{EAS the Board of Trustees of said City of Huntington
Beach find that the amount of money necessary to be raised by i
taxation on property; in said City -as a revenus for the various {
departments of said City for the current year and to pay the
bonded and other indebtedness of said City is as follows, to-wit:

each One hundred dollars of the assessed value of the property

THEREFORE, be it, and it is hereby resolved by the Board a

event reserved the right to cancel the contract, also

On motion of Trustee Onson, seconded by Trustee Obarr,
bids on collection of garbage, were laid over to the

APPROPRIATION Mr. Seaton appeared before the Board in behalf of the

PRIATION FOR LION'S Huntington Beach, re questing additional appropriation for
BAND: Sunday afternoon concerts during the month of September.
On motion of Trustee Obarr, seconded by Trustee Andrews,
$300 was approved for three concerts to be given on the
loth, 17th and 24th of September.
