READING OF The minutes for the month of November were read, and on

motion by Trustee Macklin, seconded by Trustee Onson, were accepted
and placed on file.
APPOINTMENT Communication from Fire Chief Tinsley, asking confirmation
OF FIRE of the appointment of J. K. Sargent as Fire Truck driver, at a

seconded by Trustee Onson, the appointment was approved.

REQUEST OF A communication from L. C. Nelson was read, stating he had

APPLICATION
A communication from Frank Parcel making application for the

' REQUEST .FOR A communication from W. S. Tubach was read, requesting

Letter from the Jamestown Metal Desk Company was read of-
fering their services in drawing up plans and specifications for
furnishing the new City, Hall, and as the Board felt that they were
not as yet ready to take action, this communication was placed on

SECOND READING Ordinance #252 setting forth the limits of Fire District #3
OF ORD. #252: Wass given second reading, and on motion by Trustee Onson, seconded
by Trustee Andreas , was adopted by the following vote:

SECOND READING Ordinance #253 regulating the opening and obstruction of

RE: PLACING President Drew' advised the Board that Mr. Gibbs of
ORDER FOR Montgomery-Bennett Company, dealers in builders hardware, Los
LOCHS ON Angeles, advised him over the 'phone that prompt action was neces-
NEW CITY HALL sary in placing the order for the locks of the City Hall , as the
specifications called for master key construction, which had to ;
be ordered special and required considerable length of' time for
delivery. After discussion the clerk was instructed to notify
Montgomery-Bennett Company, that the Committee would call on them
Friday,December 8th.
BE: FIRE PROOF Mr. Burke of the Sweetser-Baldwin Safe Company addressed
VAULT DOOR the Board with reference to the purchase of a fire proof vault
FOR NEW CITY door for the new City Hall, quoting a price of $190.00 installed.
HALL: On motion by Trustee Obarr, seconded by Trustee Macklin, the offer � I
of the Sweetser-Baldwin Safe Company was accepted at the above men-
tioned price , and the President of the Board was authorized to
file a contract covering specifications , price and time of delivery
of the same.

Mr. Harnish of Olmstead & Gillelin was present, offering
to add any desired information with reference to their report on
the proposed water system, which was submitted November 20th, and j
as the Board had not taken any further action, no discussion was �I
entered into. 1�)
BIDS FOR PAINTING This was the date for receiving bids on the painting
NEW CITY HALL of the new City Hall and Public Hall, and as no bids were re-
NOT RT'CEIVED? ceived, on motion by Trustee Obarr, seconded by Trustee Macklin,
AND WILL RE- the clerk was instructed to re-advertise for bids to be received
ADVERTISE: up to 7:30 p. m. December 26th, and that the architects be notified `
of this action.
RE: Communication from G. E. Cluett of Delmar Cafe was read'.
AMENDMENT suggesting amendment of the Public Dance Ordinance, on the ground
OF PUBLIC that the permit granted him recently to conduct dinner dances in his
DANCE ORD. : cafe did not give him sufficient time to entertain his patrons be- y
fore the closing hour of 12 o'clock, as most of his patronage was
from those who had attended the dance at the pavilion and arrived
at his place at a late hour. On motion by Trustee Macklin,
seconded by Trustee Obarr, the matter was taken under advisement.

COMPLETING The subject of Ridenour Brothers' contract on the Comfort ��
WORK ON Station at the Pier, was brought up, and Building Inspector Gates >

Inspector Gates presented a request of E. A. Suter for
RE: BUILDING permission to erect two houses on 16th Street, adjacent to Ocean `

A request was also made by W. H. Taylor for permit to erect �
a building - consisting of two - four-room apartments at approximateiij"i
RE BUILDING total cost of ;2000.00, located on.lots 7 and 8, block 113, and as �I
PERMIT: no plans were submitted, on motion by Trustee Obarr, seconded by
Trustee Onson, the permission was withheld. The Inspector was in-
structed to notify Mr. Taylor to submit detail plans and specifica-
tions.

City Engineer Gates brought up the matter of the 40'
RE: right-of-way at the eastern city limits on Ocean Avenue, recommend-
RIGHT-OF-WAY: ing that the city acquire 60' additional in order to have sufficient
room to construct the necessary grade for the proposed paving of
Ocean Avenue. On motion by Trustee Macklin, seconded by Trustee
Onson, City Engineer, was instructed to take steps to obtain the
additional 60 feet required, this being parallel with the land owned � �

by the Mills Land 8a Dater Company, and to cover that portion
of Ocean Avenue wherever the present right-of-way for the Coast
Boulevard is 401 in width.
President Drew brought up the matter of handling the
M�1TT'�R OF city°s pay-roll, which had been suggested by the City Clerk, which

i Mr. Craig, Assistant Engineer of the Standard Oil Company
!f ( RE.- SERVICE appeared prepared to give any information desired with reference

I Ordinance of this City, and after considerable discussion, it was
ordored that an Ordinance should be drawn covering automobile
filling stations, and on motion by Trustee Obarr, seconded by
Trustee Macklin, the City Attorney assisted by City Engineer and
Fire Chief, was instructed to draw up an Ordinance regulating the
I � construction and maintenance of automobile filling stations.

tion of the Board to the provision of Ordinance #253 concerning secur-
ing of- permits to open streets and alleys before work shall be started
and pointed out that emergencies were likely to arise such as breaks � ?
in mains, etc. that would require technical violation of this Ordinance
