CITY HALL MAY 28th, 1923.
REGULAR Pursuant to adjournment DIay 21st, the regular meeting
was called to order by President Drew at 8: P. !A.
ROLL CALL TRUSTEES PRESENT: Onson, lfiacklin, Andrews & Drew. °

AMERICAN LEGION A communication from the Local Post of American Legion
GRANTED USE OR requesting permiss-ion to use a portion of Ocean Avenue
PORTION OF OCEAN extending from the end of the P. E. Freight platform as far
AVE. FOR CARNIVAL mast as, necessary leaving 3rd Street Open for traffic
for a carnival to beshad the week of July 2nd , 1923.
On motion by Trustee Onson, seconded by Trustee
1-dacklin, the request was granted.

APPLICATION TO A written application for a permit to conduct the
CONDUCT AVALON Avalon Pool Hall, was submitted, signed by Rudd Brothers.
POOL HALL On motion by Trustee Onson, seconded by Trustee
Andrews the application was referred to City l&rshal -,
Tinsley.
NONPAREIL ATH- An application of the Nonpareil Athletic Club accompanied
LETIC CLUB GRANTED by a check for $5.00 was presented, asking for a permit
PER14ISSION TO HOLD to conduct boxing exhibitions in the building now used
BOXING EXHIBITION as the City Garage on 5th Street, to be held the night II
of June 20th, 1923. The application was signed by Jack
McDonough and Lew �.L _q s✓Te �y
On motion by Trustee :Aacklin, seconded by Trustee
Onson, the Clerk was instructed to issue a license for
the contest on the date mentioned.
President Drew appointed Trustee Onson to act on the
Finance Committee in the absence of Trustee Obarr.
COM2.1UNICATION A letter was read from j,�r. A. R. Wall , of the Standard
FROM A.R. MALL Oil Company advising that he would be pleased to give
further advice on landscaping the City Hall grounds, when
desired. Same was accepted and placed on file.
APPLICATION BY A communication was read applying for the position of
FRANK HUSKINSON- City Electrician, signed by Frank Huskinson.
CITY ENGINEER On motion by Trustee Macklin, seconded by Trustee
Andrews, the application was taken under advisement.
REQUEST OF THOS. W. Attorney L. A. West of Santa Ana, asked permission to

the City of Newport and a lease upon the municipal

I+dr. West read the properEjiotice to be advertised,
calling for bids for the franchise desired and after
a lengthydiscussion certain changes were made to con-
form to the views of the Trustees. At this time the
matter was temporarily laid over for discussion later
in the evening and a ten minute recess taken at 10:50. -

P1iESIDENT AUTHORIZED Upon calling the meeting again to order a motion ,
TO SIGN NOTICE OF COM- was offered by Trustee Andrews, seconded by Trustee
PLETION ON PAINTING Onson, that the President of the Board be authoriz-
CONTRACT OF PUBLIC HALL ed to sign the Notice of Completion of the Fainting
Contract on the Public Hall.
CUT CURB LOT 10,Blockll7 Permission was granted to cut the curb on lot 10,
Block 117 , to Mr. Tuttlebach.
PERMISSION GRANTED City Engineer Gates presented a request of E. C.
E.C.ADALM TO CUT CURB Adams for permission to cut the curb and remove
ON LOTS 10-12', Block a lamp post on 3rd Street, for the reason that he
202. is constructing a garage building on lot 10,& 12t {
Block 202. It was the view of the Board that
the Lighting System on 3rd Street had been in-
stalled at a heavy expense to the property owners ;
and that it would be impossible to have the pos t,9
moved from time to time , and it was therefore 1
moved by Trustee Macklin seconded by Trustee �
Onson that the permit to cut the curb be granted
subject to the supervision of the City Engineer 1
on condition that the lamp post in front of the 1
building not be removed.
FOLLOWING BILLS ALLOWED On motion by Trustee Macklin, seconded by Trustee.- �

Further discussion of the proposed franchise re-
quested by 11r. Simmons was had and as there !
appeared to be no possibility of arriving at a {
decision until further investigation, a motion
was offered by Trustee Andrews , seconded by
Trustee Macklin, that the Board adjourn to May
29th, at 8> P. M. 1923.
