REGULAR Pursuant to adjournment June 22nd, 1923 the
regular meeting was called to order at 8:
P. M. by President Drew.
ROLL CALL Trustees Present: Onson, Macklin, Andrews & Drew
Trustee Absent: Obarr.
LiAT`hER PERTAINING TO A communication from the Chamber of Commerce
CLOSING ENTRANCE TO PIER was read suggesting that the police close the
JULY 4th- entrance to the pier at 8: P. M. July 4th on
ACCOUNT OF FIctE VI(YEKS account of the fire works display being handled
on the pier.
On motion by Trustee Andrews, seconded by
Trustee Onson, the request was gpproved.
REQUEST BY BOY SCOUTS A communication signed by R. J. Prescott, chair-
TO USE AUDI`1'OhIUM JULY man of the boy scouts of Huntington Beach was
loth- MOVING PICTURES read, requesting the use of the Auditorium July
loth for an entertainment showing moving pictures
of theNEar East Relief.
In view of the possibility of a fire
hazard from a moving picture machine a motion was
offered by Trustee Onson, seconded by Trustee
Macklin that the request be granted subject to
the approval of the fire chief.
REQUEST-LEAVE OF ABSENCE A communication signed by C. W. Warner, requesting
O.W.WARNER leave of absence for a vacation, stating that Justice
goepper of Newport Beach, would fill his office
during his vacation.
The request was granted, on motion by
Trustee Macklin, seconded by Trustee Onson.
LOYAL ORDER OF MOOSE A communication signed by S. C. y'Zinor, Secretary
REQUESTING LEASE OF of the Loyal Order of the Moose was read with
OLD CITY HALL BLDG. reference to leasing the- old City Hall building
but as the Board was not ready at this time to
discuss the matter , the clerk was instructed to
notify Mr. Minor that he would be advised at the
proper time in order that his organization might
have an opportunity to apply for a lease.
GUARANTEE ON FRONT STEPS A communication from Clark Brothers and Libby
CITY IiALL BUILDING was read, being a guarantee on the front steps
of the City Hall, for a period of two years, which
was accepted and placed on file , on motion by
Trustee Onson, seconded by Trustee Andrews.
CONTRACT- SOUTHERN 00. A contract with the Southern Counties Gas Company
GAS CO3J1i?ANY PERMIT 120 providing for a permit to lay a gas main on cer-

boiler fuel , was presented, which provided for a
payment of 5% of the gross proceeds to the City r
of Huntington Beach.
On motion by Trustee 14acklin, seconded by
Trustee Onson, the permit to lay the lines as
designated in the contract was granted and the
contract approved.

LICENSES OF A petition was presented signed by forty-four business
PEDDLERS men of Huntington Beach with reference to licenses
now being charged peddlers selling their wares in this
City, and in order that the matter might be gone into
more fully, a motion was offered by Trustee Macklin,
seconded by Trustee Onson, that the petition be taken
under advisement until the next meeting.
REQUEST OF LABOR C. W. Rice , appeared before the Board as a member of the
ORGANIZATION- Ways and gleans Committee of the Labor Organization,
FOR FUNDS TO ADVER- having in charge the Labor Day Celebration; requesting
12ISE T1MIR LABOR a donation from the music and promotion fund to assist
DAY CELEBRATION in advertising their celebration.
President Drew advised lfr. nice that no funds were j
available at the present time , but felt sure that the
Board would be inclinded to assist, if funds were
available at a later date.

14R. BECKETT OF President Drew advised those present to bring matters
RIVERSIDE PORTLAND before the Board at this time if they desired and Mr.
CEv9ENT CO. in Beckett of the Riverside Portland Cement Company, '
reference to cement addressed the Board stating that he understood that
the impression had been given out that cement would not
be .available for t.se in�,the Ocean Avenue paving and i
that he desired to correct this impression insofar as
possible , believing that relief of the shortage was
4 in sight, and that by Septe2aber 1st it would be possible
to secure cement for this job ; however, 1Ir. Beckett
did not make the positive statement that the cement
j could be delivered.
TYPE OF PAVEI,= After some discussion as to the type of pavement to
FOR OCEAN AVE. AND adopt for Ocean Avenue; it view of the fact that all

DISCUSSED° was decided to specify 4" Asphaltic Concrete Base with
2" Willite top, and the motion was offered by Trustee
Resolution #396 Macklin, seconded by Trustee Onson, that a resolution
specifying the above type of pavement and calling for
bids on same be read.
Resolution #396 , was presented and read specifying
the type of pavement and lighting equipment for Ocean
Avenue and instructing the.,City Clerk to advertise for
bids fo be received July 16th, 1923; a copy of which
is on file in the office of the City Clerk and a cer-
tified copy in the office of the City Engineer.
On motion by Trustee Andrews , seconded by Trustee
Macklin, Resolution #396 was passed and adopted by -
the following vote :
AYES: Trustees Onson, Macklin, Andrews & Drew.
NOES : Trustees, None.
ABSENT : Trustee Obarr.
YR. SHATTUCK OF THE Mr. Shattuck of the Standard Oil Company addressed the_
STANDARD OIL CO. Board , thanking them for specifying a pavement which

SPECIFYING ASPHALT offering their services if technical advice should be

PROPOSED PIM LINE City Engineer Gates reported that he had investigated I
120 DISPOSE OF WASTE the , proposition of laying a pipe line to dispose
NEATER ALONG of the waste vvater along Alabama Street for the
ALABALTA-DISCUSSED oil wells in the North part of the City, and that the
grade would not permit laying of tile , but would
require screw pipe. He estimated the cost to be
approximately 6 ,000.00. No action was taken at
this time.
On motion by Trustee Macklin, seconded by Trustee
Andrews, the board adjourned.
