CITY HALL July 23, 1923.
Pursuant to adjournment July 9, 1923, the regular meeting E'
was called to order at 8:00 P. LI. by President Drew.
REGULAR In the absence of the City Clerk, Trustee Onson was appoint-- f'
ed Clerk Pro-tem. I
Trustees present: Onson, Macklin, Andrews and Drew.
Roll Call Trustees absent: Obarr. ,
Recess President Drew declared a ten minute recess at this time.
The meeting was again called to order by President Drew.

Mrs. Sullivan appeared before the Board requesting the use of y

Mrs. Bartholomew appeared before the Board, requesting the
use of Public Auditorium in behalf of the Daughters of Veterane.

Report on City Attorney Blodgett reported on the Huntington Beach
Telephone Co. Telephone Company rates.
COIZiUNICATION President Drew submitted a communication, requesting that the
President City participate in the Suburban drip Parade , being conducted
Harding, in honor of President Harding. I,Zr. Conrad having volunteered
Suburban Trip. to furnish an automobile for this purpose .
Trustee Macklin seconded by Trustee Andrews moved that Q50.00
be appropriated from the 14usic and Promotion Fund to be used in
decorating a machine to appear in this parade .

Mr. H. V. Anderson of Huntington Beach Water Company requested
Request for permission to lay a grater main in certain portion of 17th Street,
i Fvater Idain Park, which was granted on motion by Trustee Onson, seconded by
Trustee Andrews.

On motion by Trustee Andrews seconded by Trustee Onson, the
Vvreath deputy clerk was instructed to secure a wreath to be sent to
the funeral of the Father of the City Clerk.
John Barlow brought up the subject of securing a life boat
Life boat for the beach -nd he was appointed to investigate the cost of u
securing such a boat L.nd report back.
The subject of erecting a sunshade over the benches in front
of the Band Stu,nd on the beach was discussed . On motion by Trustee.
Sunshade for Onson seconded by Trustee Andrews, the amount not to exceed $5v0.00
benches in front was appropriated from the Music and Promotion Fund for the use
of band stand of the Chamber of Commerce in constructing this sunshade .

lighting of Ocean avenue in accordance with notices regularly

On motion by 'Trustee Llacklin seconded by Trustee Onson the
Board vient into Executive Session.
The Board was again Called to order and Presuaent Drew advised
all interested parties that it had been decided by the Board to
take all bids under advisement until Friday July 27th , at 6:00 PM
Contract for The City Attorney- was instructed to prepare a contract covering
Ocean Avenue . the paving and lighting of Ocean Avenue , and have tIE same ready

REPORT OF appraisal committee , appointed by the Board , sometime ago$ I
APPRAISAL was presented and on motion by Trustee Macklin seconded by I

The bill for expense of -this committee , consisting of

APPRAISAL in the amount of 91p300.00 each, and was approved on motion

APPROVAL OF The map of Tract #528 was presented and on motion by
TRACT # 526 'Trustee Onson, seconded by Trustee hlacklin same was approved.
City Engineer Gates presented for signature an easment
GAS GAIN granted by the Southern Pacific Company to the City of Hunt-
G,GRE I=E T ington Beach Gas Department for a gas main under the tracks
SIGNED at Atlanta Street, and motion by Trustee Tuiacklin and Trustee
Onson, the President and Clerk Pro-tem were authorized to
sign this agreement.

City Engineer Gatespresented chart of the soundings, taken,
x CH.r>RT OF with reference to the matter of extending the municipal pier,
SOUNDINGS and after discussion, Engineer Gates iias instructed to get
in touch Yith Engineers who constructed the Redondo Beach pier,
with reference to the condition of the bottom of ocean at
that location.
The City Attorney was also instructed to secure information
from the Gdar Department as to the requirements for extending
the pier.

2ERMISSION Permission to cut the curb at 216 8th Street, was granted
D B FOWLER D. B. Fowler.
Street Superintendent Gates informed the Board that the
STEAM ROLLER steam roller would be ready for use about the first of the month.
Ed. Manning made a verbal complaint as to the plumbing in-
0011PLAINT spection, and after considerable discussion Building Inspector
ED IdANNING Gates was instructed to have a conference with Ivlr. Idanning and ;<<
make a report to the Board.
The matter of repairing 17th Street was brought up and the
zEPAIR Street Superintendent Gates was instructed to proceed at once
17th STREET. with temporary repair of the worst places on 17th Street, near f
the City limits. Same to be paVO, from the iunicipal Bond Fund.
Complaint having been made about the Union Oil Company run-
COMPLAINT 'ning a caterpillar Tractor on paved street. Chief of Police
UNION OIL CO Tinsley was instructed to take the matter up with the Company.
The Health Officer was instructed to investigate the cesspool
CESSPOOL in the rear of Grocery store conducted by Cusolito Brothers on
Main Street.
On motion by rTrustee Macklin, seconded by Trustee r.ndrews ;
the Board adjourned till Friday 8:00 P M June 27th. ;
