He has taken from us our honored and beloved President Warren Gamaliel Harding. I - Friday, the tenth day of August, 1923, has been proclaimed to be a day of mourning in which the people of the United States f are to past respect properly due to the memory of our departed Chieftain. NOU THEREFORE, in order that all city officers and employees may have time and opportunity to pay their respect to his memory It is hereby resolved by the Board of Trustees of the City ti of Hunt ington Beach; That all Municipal offices be closed and that no business be transacted by the City of Huntington Beach on Friday, August the tenth nineteen hundred and twenty-three. I,et a copy of this resolution be spread on the minutes of this meeting and a copy hereof be furnished to the press of this City that the Citizens may have full knowledge hereof- Passed and adopted by unanimous vote of the Board of Trustees this 6th day of August, 1923. The death of our beloved and honored Chief Executive, Warren Gamaliel Harding, twenty- ninth President of the United States, plunges the world, and Y particularly this Nation, in the deepest grief• He dedicqj�ed the highest office that can be conferred by the people of the United States,. to the cause that there be no ' more wars, and that there shall be Peace and Goodwill between all men, and to this end he gave his life. All mankind has profited, and this great Nation has become a Greater Nation, through his wise and unselfish leadership. I But now we are bowed down in grief at the loss of so great and loving a Chief. Now each heart is heavy with sorrow, for he, whom we have learned to love and honor is still in death. i All that is mortal of our great leader lies in state in our Y Nation' s Capitol. In order that we, the citizens of the United States, may properly express our profound grief, it has been proclaimed the. Honorable byACalvin Coolidge, President of the United States, that Friday, ' August the tenth, to the year of our Lord nineteen hundred and I twenty-three, and of the Independence of the United States,the one hundred and forty seventh, be set aside as a day of mourn- 1 ing. Let us, therefore, as citizens of the City of Huntington Beach, consecrate that day, as a day of mourning. Let all business and recreation cease, at and after the hour twelve noon, and let all glags and emblems be displayed in such manner that we may pay proper respects to the memory of him, who has passed to the Great Beyond. WITNESS the hand of the President of the Board of Trustees and the Seal of the City of Huntington Beach, this Sixth day ° I of August nineteen hundred and twenty-three. i
