City Hall August 18, 1924
. REGULAR Pursuant to adjournment August 4 , the regular meetir_swas
called to order at 8: 00 P.M. by President Ridenour.
ROLL CALL Trustees Present: Trustee Wharton, Boster Drew, Ridenour
Trustees Absent : Trustee Macklin.
On motion by Trustee Drew seconded by Trustee Boster,
E.V .IaINIS E. Y,'. Yain, 631 Lake Street was given permission to place
R QUEST GRANTED tract-racks for religious literature on the band stand at
the beach.
A communication from the office of Head Rutan & Scovel ,
CO . I�fitICATIOTd-- Santa Ana , was read calling attention to o�nstruction of a
HTkAD RU'TAN & SCOVEL street in front of property of Mr. Hawkins , their client.
The matter was refered to the City Engineer for investigation.
On motion by Trustee Wharton seconded by Trustee Drew
a permit i!vas granted the Huntington Beach Ath, letic Club
PERMIT GR_4ITTED to hold an amateur boxing exhibit at 214-5th Street on the
H.B. ATHLETIC CLUB. night of August 22 , 1924. An additional permit was also
granted for the same location for the night of August 29 ,
1924 , on motion_ by Trustee Wharton seconded by Trustee Drew.
Both applications were accompanied by the regular 05.00
license fee .
JAI:T�:S BALLARD The written application of James Ballard for a pool hall
POOL HALL LICENSE license was refeYred to the Chief of Police .
PETITION- A petition signed by property owners requesting the Board
SI:WER FOR BLYi.#6�5 to include in the proposed sewer district, Vista Del Mar
TO BLYo %606 TO Tract, a line laid in the alley extending from the inter-
HILL STREET section of Block ;�605 through Block �606 to Hill Street.
On motion by Trustee Boster seconded by Trustee Drew the
City Engineer was instructed to include the area?mentioned
in the petition in the plans now being drawn for sewer
,- system in the Vista Del Tear Tract.
PETITION TO ABANDON A petition_ signed by property owners on or near Orange
ORANGE AVE. Avenue was presented and read, asking the Board to abandon
PRO =DINGS. the proceedings for the improvement of Orange Avenue from
Lake Street to 23rd Street with6" asphaltic concrete pave-
ment and to re-advertise for bids for a 5" asphaltic
concrete to run from Lake Street to 17th Street.
President Ridenour was called to the 'phone therefore
RECESS declared a recess.
The meeting was again called to order and Trustee Drew
ORANGE AVENUE seconded by Trustee lAtharton moved ' that all proceedings on
PROCEEDINGS Orange Avenue be abandoned for the purpose of forming a
ABANDONED. new assessment district and specifying a lesser thickness
of pavement which was carried.
ORANGE AVENUE BIDS Trustee Drew seconded by Trustee Wharton moved that all
RETURNED TUTROPE11ED. bids for the work on Orange Avenue which were to have been
opened at this meeting bg returned unopened for the reason
that' the specifications upon which the bids were made are
now abandoned.
Resolution #446 providing for the issuance of street
ESOLUTI014 #446 improvement bonds for the work of improvement of 5th Street
was read , a copy of which is on file in the office of the
Clerk, and on motion by Trustee Drew seconded by Trustee
Wharton was passed and adopted by the following vote:
Ayes: Trustees lfd�harton, Boster, Drew, Ridenour.
Noes: None
Absent: Trustee Macklin.
Resolution #447 providing for the issuance of street
improvement bonds for the work of improvement of loth Street
RESOLUTION #447 was read, a copy of which is on file in the office of the
Clerk, and on motion by Trustee Boster seconded by Trustee
Wharton was passed and adopted by the following vote :
Ayes: Trustees V-1harton, Boster, Drew, Ridenour.
Noes: None
Absent: Trustee Macklin.

RECESS A short recess was declared at this time.
The meeting was again called to order and Resolution
J#448 approving the Superintendent of Streets' assessment
for the improvement of 15th Street was read, a copy of
:RESOLUTION #448 which is on file in the office of the Clerk, and on motion
by Trustee Drew seconded by Trustee Boster was passed and
adopted by the following vote:
Ayes: Trustees Vlharton, Boster, Drew, Ridenour.
Noes: None.
Absent: Trustee Hacklin.
Resolution #449 approving the Superintendent of Streets'
assessment for the improvement of 16th Street was read , a
` copy of which is on file in the office of the Clerk, and on
_T'SQLUTION ;;-449 motion by Trustee Drew seconded by Trustee Wharton was passed
and adopted by the following vote :
Ayes: Trustees Wharton, Boster, Drew, Ridenour. r
Noes: None.
Absent: Trustee Macklin.
Resolution #450 adopting plans, specifications, profiles
and cross-sections for the improvement of California Avenue
RE-SOLUTION #450 from the north property line of Detroit Street to the south
property lire of Geneva Street by paving with .asphaltie
concrete and installing ornamental electric lights , was read
and a copy of which is on file in the office of the Clerk
and on motion by .Trustee Drew seconded by Trustee Boster was
passed and adopted by the following vote :
Ayes: Trustees Wharton, Boster, Drew, Ridenour.
Noes: None
Absent: Trustee Macklin.
Resolution #451 declaring the intention of the Board to
R ;SQL UTIOTI „`451 improve California Avenue from Detroit to Geneva Street by
paving and lighting wasrread, a copy of copy of which is on
file in the office of the Clerk, and on motion by Trustee
` Wharton seconded by Trustee Boster was passed and adopted
by the following vote :
Ayes: Trustees Wharton, Boster, Drew, Ridenour,
Noes: None.
Absent: Trustee Idacklin.
tvIONROE CALCULATING The City Engineer was instructed to purchase a Conroe
TVA CHI12 TO Bll!', calculating machine not to exceed $300.00.
PU' CHASED.
On motion by Trustee Drew seconded by Trustee Boster the
AD`RTISING FOR Clerk was instructed to advertise for bids for the erection
BID'l-I,iUNICIPAL of buildings on the Ldunicipal Auto Camp. All to be in
AUTO CAIMP accordance with plans and specifications in the office of
the City Engineer. Said bids to be received at the regular
meeting of the Board, September 2.
ADJOURNTIU]NT On motion by Trustee Drew seconded by Trustee Boster the
Board adjourned to 8: 00 P.M. August 25.
