IA. by President Ridenour. Trustees Present: Efrharton, Macklin, Boster, Drew, Ridenour. . ROLL CALL Trustees Absent None . A permit to hold an amateur.; boxing contest on the night of BOXING PERMIT October 17th was granted the Huntington Beach Athletic Club. GRANTED A petition- was presented requesting the Board to have in- stalled an ornamental lighting system on Huntington Avenue LIGHTS ON HUNTING- between Detroit and Lincoln Streets, specifying Marbelite Posts TON AVENUE On motion by Trustee Drew, seconded by Trustee Macklin, the Engineer was instructed to prepare plans and specifications for doing the�.work described in the petition. The City Engineer reported iAi th reference to trespassors 4- TENTS ON OCEAN living upon the Ocean Avenue right of way in the east part of AVENUE town. President Ridenour invited those present having matters to - come before the meeting to present them at this time. Mr. S : R. Bowen read a communication from the American BILLS FOR ARMISTICE Legion requesting the Board to take such action as would DAY TO BE PAID UP guarantee payment of bills incurred by the Armistice Day 'Cele- TO $6,000.00 bration Committee to. the extent of $5,000.00 if necessary. Mr. Bowen submitted in addition to the letter, an estimated budget of expenditures vt-ich was carefully gone over by the Board. Trustee Macklin moved .that the Board approve payment of $5,000.00 from the Music and Promotion fund to the American Legion Committee as requested and an amendment was offered and approved providing that the Board guarantee to honor bills approved by the Celebration Committee up to and not exceeding $5,000.00, same to be paid from the Music and Promotion fund upon demands filed iNl th the City Clerk by warrents on the City Treasurer. The motion was read as amended and seconded by Trustee Drew who called for a roll call on the question. The motion was carried by the following vote: Ayes: Trustees Wharton, Macklin, Drew, Ridenour. , Noes: Trustee Boster. Absent: None. Trustee Drew stated that he would like very much to see this action unanimous in view of the fact that the Board of Trustee prior to the City Election had pledged their unanimous support to the Armistice Day- Celebration and that in as much as it involved not only a patriotic duty, it also applied to civic pride and that he •would dislike very much to have the word go out in the county that the entire Board was not behind the celb- bration. Trustee Boster stated that he approved of the celebra- tion but did not approve of some of the amounts sh oivn on the budget and did not believe that it would require $5,000.00. The President informed him that the motion as put provided that the bills would be paid for any amount under $5,000.00 and in his judgment this should eliminate such an objection. This having been explained to the satisfaction of Trustee Boster he expressed a de'si re to change his vote. Trustee Drew, second- ed by Trustee Macklin moved that the motion be reconsidered and the Clerk instructed to call the roll. The vote was as follows. Ayes: Trustees Wharton, Macklin, Boster, Drew, Ridenour. Noes: None Absent: None. Mr. S. R. Bowen informed the Board that he desired to make CHAIVITER OF COMI` another assault upon the Treasury as President of the Chamber of tvIFRCE ASKS Commerce , submitting a written statement of the various activities APPOINTIENT OF carried on by that body and reciting the view of the Members of ADV. MANAGER the Chamber. of Commerce with reference to use of a portion of the Music and Promotion fund for Chamber of Commerce activities. This communication was placed on file mi th the. Clerk and Mr. Bowen urged the Board to take favorable action upon his proposal, that they appoint J. A. Armitage Advertising Manager at $200.00 per month to serve at the pleasure of the Board. Deci si•on on the matter was temporarily laid over. ATTY Rc1POKTED City Attorney Blodget reported on the result_ of the Pacific ON PALISADES Palisades case , stating that the City had been sustained in their CASE ordinance restricting the drilling for oil in certae:n portions of the City. Chamber of Commerce matter was again taken up and a motion J. A. ARMITAGE was offered by Trustee Macklin, seconded by. Trustee Boster that APPOINTED the Board appoint J. A. Armitage as Advertising Manager at $200.00 ADV. MA.13AGER. per month, same to be taken from the Music and Promotion fund , the appointee to serve under the direction of the ,City Controller and at the pleasure of the Board of 'Trustees, which was carried. The Clerk acting with the City Engineer reported the check of ownership of the signers of the petition protesting the proposed HEARING PROTESTS work on Orange Avenue as set forth in Resolution of Intention ON ORANGE AVE #455, the - entire area of the district to be assessed was 716,896 square feet and the area owned within the district by protesting property owners was 181,876 square feet, making a percentage of 25.4 of the entire district. Mr. Clarence Hield addressed the Board at length with reference PROTESTS ON to the approval of the petition and after a gull opportunity had ORANGE AVE been given to all present to express their views the Board passed OVER-RULED BY a resolution over-ruling the protest on the ground that it did iESOLUTION #467 not contain 51 percent of the district effected, therefore the Clerk read Resolution #467 over-ruling the protest against the work on Orange Avenue between Lake and Eleventh Streets, a copy ~ of which is on file in the office of the Clerk and on motion by Trustee Wharton, seconded by Trustee Macklin was passed and adopted by the - following vote: Ayes: Trustees Wharton, Macklin., Drew, Ridenour. Noes: Trustee Boster. Absent: None . The subject of paving Seventh Street was brought up. Trustee Engineer ASKED Macklin moved that the Engineer be instructed to draw plans, TO PLANS specifications, crass-sections and profiles for the improvement FOR IMP. OF 7 th of Seventh Street for paving and lighting. Street * Trustee Macklin stated that.he had observed in reading the Macklin requests Santa Ana Register that the initial H. B. had been used frequently Clerk to have instead of spelling out . the name of the City and requested that Newspapers print the Clerk have a letter written to the editor of the Santa Ana Huntington Beach Register asking him to use the full name where ever possible in in full articles concerning the City. Resolution #468 ordering the izork on Orange Avenue between Resolution #468 Lake and Eleventh Streets was read, a copy of *Jaich is on file PASSED & .ADOPTED in the office of the Clerk and on Motion by Tm stee Macklin, seconded by 'Trustee Wharton was passed and adopted by the follow- ing vote: Ayes: 'Trustees Wharton, Macklin, Drew, Ridenour. Noes: Trustee Boster. Absent None. On motion by Trustee Drew seconded by Trrastee Macklin the Board adjourned to 7 :30 P. M.
