CITY HALL MAY 4, 1925.
REGULAR The regular meeting, was called to order at 8:00 P. M.
o'clock by President Ridenour.
ROLL CALL Trustees present: Wharton, Macklin, Boater, Drew, Ridenour.
Trustees absent None.
The minutes for the month of April were read and approved

GRANTED the Talbert Truck Barn, Alabama Street, was read, the same being
accompanied by the $5..00 license fee.
On motion by Trustee ;iharton seconded by Trustee Drew the

A written report on the proposed pier extension and break-

RECESS The Chair -declared a short recess at this time .
The meeting was again called to order and a communication
from the Huntington Beach Band was submitted offering a choice
of prices depending. on the number of men engaged. ranging from
ARRANGE12NTS MADE $150;00 per concert for 22 men to $190.00 per concert for 29
FOR BAND CONCERTS men. IAfter discussion Trustee Drew seconded by Trustee Macklin
moved that the Huntington Beach Municipal Band be employed to
give 20 concerts during the summer at $150.00 per concert, using
not less than 22 men. The first concert to be given Memorial
Day and subsequent dates to be mutually agreed upon which was'
carried.
C01121UNICATION FROM A letter from V;. C . Lance was read requesting permission
W. C. LANCE to erect a service station at the corner of Seventeenth Street
and .Ocean Avenue. On motion by Trustee Drew seconded by Trustee
Wharton ,the matter was laid on the table until plans were sub-
witted to the Building Inspector for presentation to the Board. .
The Clerk read a letter from J. M. Berkley., consulting
engineer who was retained April 6th for the purpose of nego-
tiatir_g the gas contract for the City. Mr. Berkley made a
complete report on the gas .situation and submitted a contract

TRACT. cents per thousand cubic feet, covering a period of five years
APPROVED BY BOARD from May 17th, 1925, and recommending its acceptance by the
Board on the grounds that it was the best arrangement in his
opinion that could be secured at this time. Trustee Macklin
seconded by Trustee Boater moved that the gas contract offered
by�the Southern Counties Gas Company be approved and the Presi-
dent of the Board authorized to sign_ the same on condition that

A lease on a portion of Parcel C. being that portion of
the beach lying. between the pier and the southeasterly line
LEASE FOR PLAY GROUND, . of Third Street was presented for approval. Trustee Macklin
APPROVED BY BOARD seconded by Trustee Drew moved that the lease 'on the above
mentioned Parcel between the, Huntington Beach Company and the
Ci of Huntington Beach be accepted at an annual rental
of 1.00 and City and County taxes and that the President of
the Board be authorized to sign the lease which was carried.
CLERK' TO ARRANGE FOR The Clerk was instructed to arrange for public liability
INSURANCE ON PLAY GR. insurance on the play ground as provided for in the lease.
On motion by Trustee Drew seconded by Trustee Macklin
CLERK INSTRUCTED" TO the controller was instructed to place fire insurance on
INSURE SCOUT CABIN° the Boy Scout cabin_ located in Lake Parka
This being the time for receiving bids for the repair
of the sewer outfall in accordance with notices duly publish-
ed in the Huntington Beach News the Clerk opened and declared
the only- bid received; being that of the Fred Henderson. Com-

RECEIVES BID ON 'OUT"- the City to supply all material or if preferred on a per diew basis
FALL BEISER of $50.00 per day for one diver and attendants and $40.00
a day for boat hire. On motion by Trustee Drew seconded by
Trustee Macklin the Street Superintendent was authorized
to enter into a contract with the Fred Henderson Compmy
on a per 'diem basis of $50.00 per day for one diver and at-
tendants and $40.00 per day for boat hire , time to be allowed
only when working and 'a deduction from the divers wages
to cover cost of compensation insurance which was carried.
At -this time the President invited those present having

A petition/for the improvement of the intersection of
Lake Avenue and Magnolia. Avenue, that portion of Alabama
Avenge lying between. the southerly line of Magnolia Avenue
ENG, TO PREPARE PLANS and the northerly line of Elmira Street, Elmira Street from

motion by Trustee Drew seconded by Trustee Macklin the City
Engineer was instructed to prepare plans, specifications,
profiles and cross-eedtions _for the carrying out of this work.
The petition for installation of ornamental lights on

A letter from the Adjutant General of this State advising

On motion by Trustee Macklin seconded by Trustee Wharton '
the fLnance committee and the President of the Board were
authorized to confer with the American Legion as to the selec-
tion of some trophies 'to Ta.,e placed in the public grounds and
-to draw warrants to cover the necessary charges to be advanced.

PROVIDING FOR BONDS in the Huntington Beach News, Resolution #509 was read, a copy
FOR EIGHTH ST of which is on file in the office -of the Clerk, providing for the
issuance of certain bonds and on motion by Trustee Wharton seconded
by Trustee Boster was passed and adopted by the. following vote:

This being the time for hearing protests against the issuance
of bonds covering the unpaid assessments for the improvemem-t of
RESOLUTION #510 Walnut Avenue' from First to Eleventh Streets by paving and lighting
PROVIDING BONDS FOR in accordance with notices duly published in the Huntington Beach
YIALNUT AVE News, Resolution #510 was read, a copy of which is on file in the
office of the Clerk, providing for the issuance of said bonds
and on motion by Trustee Wharton seconded by Trustee Boster was
passed and adopted by the following vote :

ORDINANCE #275 Ordinance #275 providing_. for the assessment. and collection
PASSED AND ADOPTED of taxes being amendment to ordinance #150 was given second
reading and -on- motion by Trustee Drew seconded by Trustee Macklin
was passed and adopted by the following vote:

Mr. Hall of Upland, California, asked permission to erect a

by Trustee Wharton the Inspector was authorized to grant the
permit.
PERMISSION GRAITTED Permission to cut the curb on lots 1 and 2, block. 103 was
TO CUT CURB granted on motion by Trustee Macklin seconded by Trustee Drew.
Engineer Billings informed the Board that Geo. M. Souter
GEO 14 SOUTER had donated the paving at the entrance of the Municipal Auto
DONATES PAVING FOR Park and suggested a vote of thanks. . On motion by Trustee -Macklin
AUTO PARK seconded by Trustee Wharton the Clerk was instructed to write
a letter of thanks to Mr. Souter.

AVENUE Street to Seventeenth Street which was adopted on motion by Trustee
Macklin seconded by Trustee Wharton.

PASSED AND ADOPTED was read a copy of which is on file in the office of the Clerk

profiles # New Series 28, in 9 sheets and specifications #57 ,
' PLAITS PRESENTED Providing for the construction_ of server lines in certain portions
FOR SEVER LINES of Vista Del Ma.r, :Sect ions 1 and 2, Vista Del Mar Knoll Section,
Valley View tract and Redburn tract located as shown on the plans.
On motion by Trustee Drew seconded by Trustee Macklin these plans,
profiles, cross-sections and specifications were adopted.
RESOLUTION #512 , Resolution #512 declaring the intention of the Board to

Resolution #513 declaring the intention of the Board to ,
RESOLUTION #513 improve Twelfth Street between Ocean Avenue and Orange Avenue
PASSED AND ADOPTED by paving and lighting was read, a copy of which is on file
in .the office of the Clerk and on motion by Trustee Drew
seconded by Trustee Macklin was passed and adopted by the
following vote:
Ayes: Trustees Wharton, Macklin, Bo ster, Drew, Ridenour.
Noes: None.
Absent: None.
The matter of appointing a custodian for the Auto Park
was brought up and Trustee Drew suggested that in view of the r
ENGINEER INSTRUCTED fact that there was a large number of applications to go
TO APPOINT AUTO PARK over and that the work would be under the supervision of the
CUSTODIAN Street Superintendent that he felt that the matter should be
placed in his hands, the work being done by his department
until such time as a regular keeper is required. Trustee
Drew offered a motion seconded by Trustee Macklin that the
Auto Park applications be referred to the Street Superintendent
with instructions to select a custodian when required which
was carried.
The Clerk submitted separate petitions asking for the
recall of Richard Drew 'and J. H. Macklin from the office of
RECALL PETITIONS and
Trustee which were \`filed in his office April 2, 1925,
and bore his cer tificate' showing the result of his examination
PR✓SLITTED, REFERRED dated April 13, 1925. This beinz the first meeting subsequent
TO CITY ATTORNEY to the date of his certificate. -Trustee Drew seconded by
Trustee . harton moved that the petitions be referred to the y
City Attorney with instructions to prepare necessary papers
as required by law.
ADJOURIUMENT On motion by Trustee Macklin seconded by Trustee Wharton
