CITY HALD AUGUST. 24, 1925.
Pursuant to adjournment August 3rd, 192p-, - the regular meet-
REGULAR ing was called to order at 8:00 o'clock P. M. by President Ridenour.
ROLL CALL Trustees Present: Wharton, Dunning, Drew, Ridenour.
Trustees Absent Boster.
CLERK, PRO TEM On account of City Clerk, W. R. Wright being absent the Chair
appointed Trustee IPA. R. Wharton, Clerk pro tem.
FINANCE COMa ,PRO T :M The Chair also appointed Trustee Dunning to serve on the
Finance Committee in place of Trustee Boster, absent.
In the matter of the application of C. W. Flemming, #8
Locust Avenue , Long Beach, for franchise to operate a passenger
PERMISSION FOR launch from the pier to a pleasure fishing barge several miles
FRANCHISE TO "OPEN- distant. Mr. Flemming's letter stated that he is now operating
ATE FISHING BARGE the "Pastime Barge" off the pier in Long Beach .and if allowed
REFERRED TO ENGINEER a franchise extending over a period from five to ten years in
the City of Huntington Beach he would agree to manage the enter-
prise in a marne.r entirely satisfactory.. On motion by Trustee
Drew seconded by Trustee Dunning the application was referred
to the City Engineer for investigation and report at an early
meeting.
The Clerk read a letter from J. W. Stevens, Secretary of
Pacific Coast Association of Fire Chiefs, San Francisco, calling
COMMUNICATION FROM attention to a convention to be held in Seattle , September 21st,
SECRETARY OF FIRE to 24th, inclusive and urging .the attendance of our Fire Chief.
CHIEFS CONCERNING The invitation stated that probably 500 Chiefs would be in
CONVENTION attendance and that the information gained by our Chief in
discussing ways and means of fire prevention and control would
be well worth the small expense of the trip.
On motion by Trustee Drew duly seconded and carried the
EXPENSES O�aT;D sum of $150.00 was ordered to be allowed Fire Chief Tinsley for
FIRE CHIEFF FOR CONVENTION expenses of attending the convention.
On motion by Trustee Wharton seconded by Trustee Dunning
JAS BALLARD POOL and carried the application of Jas . Ballard to continue the
HALL LICENSE ACCEPTED business known as the Palace Pool Hall and Billiard Parlor
located- at 117 Main Street was accepted and allowed.
Idoved by Trustee Drew and seconded by Trustee Wharton and
PERMIT GRAFTED TO carried that the application made by W. S. Tubach to move a
MOVE BUILDING AND modern residence building and .place same on the rear of lots
ERECT GARAGE 9 and 10, block 110, also to constru.et a new double garage on
same lots, be allowed provided that all buildings pass inspection
by the City Building Inspector.
The Clerk read a communication under date of August 24th
CHAMBER OF COMo from the Huntington Beach Chamber of Commerce in which the opinion
ADVISES PASSING OF was expressed that on account of the lack of sanitary provisions x
O on the Beach front an ordinance should be passed prohibiting the
CLOSED TENT ORDI� erection and use of closed tents on the Beach. On motion by
NANCE Trustee Dunning seconded by Trustee Wharton, put and carried
the matter was taken under advisement.
The Clerk read a letter under the date of August 22nd signed
by C. A. Johnson, President of the Board of Trustees of the
HIGH SCHOOL BOARD Huntington Beach High School, asking the aid of the City Trustees
ASKS CLOSING OF in closing certain streets and alleys running along the boundary
lines of the High School property. . On motion by Trustee Drew second-
ed ed by Trustee Wharton, put and carried the Clerk was instructed
to request that a Member of the High School Board be present at
the next regular meeting. Tuesday,,. September 8th, 8:00 o 'clock P. M.
to discuss the matter in detail.
APPLICATION TO On motion by Trustee Wharton seconded by Trustee Dunning the
• ERECT ELECTRIC SIGN application of J. H. Macklin to erect an electric sign across

Ocean Avenue near Third Street and Ocean Avenue was ordered filed.
On motion by Trustee Drew seconded by Trustee Wharton the
following bills approved by .the Finance Committee and signed by
BILLS ALLOWED the President of the Board were ordered paid.
Patton Realty Company, Play Ground Insurance $132.00
Municipal Bond Company. of Los Angeles, paving assessments,
Orange Avenue, block 417, amount $2247.36.

W. A. Gallienne , business manager of the Huntington
BAND OFFERS SERVICES Beach Band _responde.d by inquiring if his_ band would be
FOR LABOR DAY wanted for service on Labor day, September 7th. After
some discussion Yr. Gallienne was . informed.by the. Chair that
unless a -program could- be arranged sufficiently interesting to
attract a good crowd the band would not be called upon to
play.
TArs. Behn appeared before the Board with reference to °
the purchase or rental to the. City of the Elgin Street
CONTRACT TO BE DRAWN Sweeper now on demonstration. After some discussion motion
FOR NEW SWEEPER was made by Trustee Drew seconded by Trustee Wharton -and
carried that the City Attorney:.be .instructed to draw up

i:7ATTER OF CLAUSE IN The matter of inserting a clause in the gas contract
GAS CONTRACT LAID ON with the .Southern Counties Gas Comp any was on motion by
TABLE Trustee Drew seconded by Trustee Wharton ordered laid on
the table.
BONDS ACCEPTED On motion by Trustee Drew seconded by Trustee Dunning
the following bonds were accepted and ordered filed.
W. G. Belshe, licensed electrician 0500.00. surety bond. �
J. D. Sanborn, licensed plumber, 4500.00 surety bond.
b S. E. Talbert, licensed house mover, $500.00 surety bond.
REQUEST GRANTED TO On motion by Trustee Drew seconded by Trustee Dunning
CUT CURB ON OLIVE AVE the request of Mrs. Sager to cut the curb on Olive Avenue, ^
block 219 was. granted.
This being the time for hearing protests against the
issuance of bonds to cover the unpaid assessments for the
improvement of Seventh Street in accordance with the notices
RESOLUTION #528 published in the Huntington Beach Nevis the Clerk informed ,-
PASSED AND ADOPTED the Board that no protests had been filed, therefor Resolu-
tion #528 providing for the issuance of these bonds was
read, a copy of which is on file in the office of the City
Clerk and on motion by -Trustee Drew seconded. by, Trustee Whar-
ton was passed and adopted by the following vote:
Ayes: Trustees Wharton, Dunning, Drew, Ridenour.
Noes Trustees None.
Absent: .Trustee Bos ter.
This being. the time set for opening bids for the im-
provement of certain portions of Olive Avenue from First
CLARCLERK OPENS AND DE- Street to Twenty-third Street and the alley in block 304
AVENUE BIDS ON OLIVE in accordance with notices published in the Huntington 4
AVENUE Beach News and .pursuant to Resolution of Intention No. 521
the Clerk opened and delcared the following bids:

TO ENGINEER referred to the ity Engineer for analysis, thereupon the Chair
declared a. short recess pending the report of the City Engineer
on Olive 'Avenue bids.
The B°oerd was again called to order and the following report
of the City Engineer was read.

On motion by Trustee Drew seconded by Trustee Dunning all
G. 11. SOUTER AWARD- bids for the improvement of Olive Avenue from First Street to
ED CONTRIXT FOR Twenty-third Street and the alley in block .304 were:-rejected
OLIVE AVE except that of G. M. Souter and G. M. Souter was awarded. the
-� contract for doing the work.
Thereupon Resolution #529 awarding,.. the contract to G. M.
RESOLUTION #529 Souter for the improvement of Olive Avenue and a portion of the
alley in block 304 was read and on motion by Trustee Drew seconded
by Trustee Dunning was passed and adopted by the fmllowing vote:
t Ayes: Trustees Wharton, Dunning, Drew, Ridenour.
Noes: None.
Absent: Boster.
On motion by Trustee Drew seconded by Trustee Dunning the
ADJOURNMENT Board adjourned.
