President Ridenour being absent Trustee Drew was appointed to take the Chair on motion by Trustee 'Wharton seconded by Trustee Boster. V Trustees present: Wharton, Dunning,, Boster, Drew. Trustees absent : Ridenour. . A communication from the State Railroad Commission relative to the recent circular letter of Mayor Cryer of Los Angeles was read and ordered placed on file. A letter from E.. A. . Suter of the Home State Bank was read commending the ' efficiency of the Police Department with special reference to the recent. occasion when their burglar alarm was set off accidently. This letter was ordered, placed on file. r" � w On motion by Trustee Boster seconded by TrLis tee Dunning the Clerk was instructed to arrange, for a fire proof safe for the Engineers office. On motion by Trczs tee Dunning seconded by Trustee 111 narton the Clerk was instructed ,to place such additiond-1 insurance on the furnishings of the City Hall as was necessary and to investigate the matter of secucin_g a lower insurance rate by carrying 80 or 90 per cent of the full value of the buildir_gs. The matter of . improvemer_t of Eighteenth Street was again brought up and Chairman Drew informed those present that it was the desire of the Board to ,decide the matter at this meeting based • on the wishes of the interested property owners. A petition_ signed by numerous owners asking that the work be carried out was presented and after careful checking by members of the Board as to the number of owners who were for or against the z-,o rk it was shown that there were more owners declaring for the work than against it, however., it was apparent that the majority desired T:larbelit,e Lamp Posts and to accomplish this it would be r_ec"essary to start the proceedings. ,over. •A President Ridenour arrived at this time and took the Chair. Trustee Drew seconded by Trustee Boster moved that the previous proceedings for the improvement of Eighteenth Street from Ocean Avenue to Palm Avenue be abandoned and the petition asking that the work be carried on on Eighteenth Street, be accepted and the Engineer be instructed to prepare plans, specifi aM44�tp I 1 rations, cross-sections and" profiles for the improvement of Eighteenth Street from Ocean Avenue to Palm Avenue by paving and lighting and providing, for the use of TTarbelite Light Standards, which was carried. ,On motion by Trustee t,1-harton seconded by Trustee Boster �.� permission to cut the curb on lots 2 and 4, block 316 was granted �Z. J. Porter.
