I,IINUTES OF ADJOURNED MEETING OF THE BOARD OP TRUSTEES OF
THE CITY OF HUNTI NGTON BEACH, HELD IN THE COUNCIL CHAFER,
• CITY HALL , JULY 12TH,. 1926.
Pursua; t to adjournment of July 6th, the meeting was called to
order at 7 :30 o 'clock. P.ld.by President Boster.
Trustees Present: Mitchell , Harris , Boster:
The Clerk read a communication from J.H.Nellis of the Gateway

Bazar, 17th and Main Streets offering to..assist in employing some
__,. to turn. on and off gas lights and .affect a saying to the Oity.
The matter was referred to the City Engineer to investigate and
report with his recommendations at next meeting.
Trustee Wharton arrived at 7 :55 o 'clock P.M.
The matter of building a rest room on the outer end of the
Municipal Pier was again discussed, art on motion by Trustee Wharton,
seconded by Trustee Harris all bids were rejected.
The City Engineer recommended that the specifications be changed
to read lime brick and that the City purchase the plumbing fixtures
�- nd re-advertise for bids stating that in so doing a saving could be
had for the City.
On motion by Trustee Harris, seconded ,by Trustee Wharton that
specifications be changed to read Lime Brick construction and that
the City purchase plumbing fixtures and re-4dvertise for bids for
construction carried.
►. The Clerk read a letter from C.W.Hanke asking the Board to make
some improvements on Block 505 for the purpose of putting in a tennis
rack., croquet, horse shoe ground , checker boards and other play ground
equipment. The Chair referred the matter to the Park Committee ,
y� :5 Trustees Wharton and Mitch ell with the request that they confer with
the City Engineer and a committee from the Chamber of Commerce and
report at the next meeting.
- The application of Harry Landreth of 137 West Amerigo Street,
Fullerton, California for the position_ as traffic officer was ordered
referred to the Chief of Police and filed for future reference.
Trustee Ridenour arrived at 8: 20 o 'clock P.M.
The request of Mrs. Westmorland of the Woman's Relief Corps to
use 150 of the Auditorium seats at the I 0 0 F Hall on July 26th was on
otion by Trustee Mitchell , seconded bT:__Trustee Harris gra3hted and the
Street Superintendent ordered to deliver and return the chairs.
The matter of furnishing dishes , silverware and tables for the
Auditorium was discussed and the City.Controler was instructed to look
into the matter, get prices and submit at the next meeting, it being the
opinion of the Board that the City was not getting the full use of the
Auditorium and that it should be fitted for serving banquets if the
cost was not too great.
The Clerk read the Report of City Advertising manager Reynolds
covering expenditures for the 4th of -July celebration and the Valencia
Orange Show in which it was shown that the City had received much value_
able advertising at a very nominal cost due to tha co-operation of the
citizens of Huntington Beach, Pacific Electric Railway, Sa- to Ana
Register, Huntington Beach News, Foster & Kletser Company, Hitt Fireworks
Company and others.
President Boster stated that he was sure the Citizens of Huntington
Beach and visitors appreciated the entertainment and were aware of the
success had.
The request of theCity of Sacramento for the support of .this City
in naming Sacramento as theplace of meeting of the League of Municipal-
ities for the year 1927 was laid over until the August meeting for
action
On motion by Trustee Harris, seconded by Trustee Wharton, t}e
President of the Board and City Clerk were appointed to attend the
. League of Municipalities Convention to be held at Camp Curry, august
16th to 20th inclusive.
• The matter of the purchase of a book case and filing cabinet
for the Engineer's Office was referred to the City Controller and .City
' Engineer with authority to select and purchase.

t this time the City Clerk gave Ordinance No. 285 removing certain
L building restrictions in the newly opened oil . territory West of
17th Street it second and final reading, and on motion by Trustee
Wharton, seconded by Trustee Mitchell. was passed and adopted by
the following vote :
Ayes, Trustees Wharton, Mitchell, Ridenour , Harris,Boster
Noes ; Trustees None
Absent, Trustees None.
On motion_ b-1 Trustee Wharton, seconded by Trustee Ridenour, the
application of the Wilshire Oil Company to erect two 3,000 bbl tanks
on the rear of lots 3,4,5,6,7 and 8, Block 118, was granted and the
City Engineer authorized to issue permit in accordance with Ordinance
No. 285.
At this time the City Clerk presented the: Board with a copy of
�. the analysis of the Cite Controller covering the recent audit of
the City books by John P.Walker, accountant. On motion by Trustee
Harris, seconded by Trustee Mitchell and carried, the City Clerk
was instructed to defer the publication of the audit until such
time as the City Attorney has had time to check over the analysis
and criticism made by the City Controller.
Trustee Mitchell addressed the Board relative to the improve-
ment of a portion of Clay Street -and Hampshire Avenue, stating that
the County Supervisors were willing to assist in the work and stand
half the expense of an oil and gravel improvement on all portions
of the above streets owned jointly by the County and City. The
total to be improved being about one mnd one-half miles and providing
a new route into the City ,by way of Hampshire Avenue. On motion by
Trustee Mitchell , seconded by Trustee Ridenour, the City Engineer was
instructed to oo nfer with the County Engineer and Board of Supervisors
and report at the next meeting of the Board.
Jack Robertson addressed the Board relative to the Indoor Bgll
grounds stating that many were interested in the success and continuance
` o this sort of entertainment, but . that the grounds needed lighting
-Gila& nd the promoters of the game needed P75.00 to help defray expenses.
Mr. Robertson_ stated that this was the first time the club had ever
appeal.ed to the City for help and felt that it would be money well
spent. On motion by Trustee Wharton, seconded by Trustee Harris , the
request was grexted.
On motion. by Trustee iVhhrton, seconded by Trustee Mitchell , the
City Engineer was authorized to secure prices for furnishing the 6ity
with a small Tractor and scarifier and report at next meeting.
There being no further business , the Board adjourned.
