Trustees present: Boster,I-"narton,Mitchell,harris,Shank. The clerk read letters from Edna A Eaton and Jennie Clippinger _ 250 Ft of protesting against the 250 foot restriction in the vicinity of school school buildings, which was filed without action. On motion by Trustee Wharton seconded by Trustee Harris the Boxing application of H Faulkner to hold boxing bou was approved and permission given the City Clerk to issue future license upon the recommendation of the Chief of Police until further notice. Motion by Trustee Wharton seconded by Trustee Harris the 8-ht Curbs application of the Standard Oil Co to cut curb and install dricevwayys in blocks 119,12o,121,118,219,220,320,�21,322,u20, 421,419,U2„519,520,521,522 also L Wibson same lot 9 Block 504 was granted. Motion by Trustee Shank seconded by Trustee Mitchell,application „ of E A Suter to cut curb and install driveway lot 3 block �10 was allowed. The application of Superior Oil Co to cut curb and install driveway Lot- 9 Block 218 was on motion by Trustee Harris seconded by Trustee Wharton granted. Motion by Trustee Mitchell seconded by Trustee Wharton James Miller and Ed ECWoods were given permission to cut curb and install driveway in Blocks 608 and 219 respectively. . Motion by Trustee Shank seconded by Trustee Mitchell the " California. Petroleum Company wa.s given permission to cut curb and install driveway in Block 317. The Clerk read application of S G henderson for the position Inspectorof Steam Boiler Inspector which was filed without action. The Clerk reed the followinletter from the Huntington Beach C of C Chamber of Commerce,and on motion by Trustee Wjarton seconded by Recommending Trustee Harris the Clerk was instructed to spread same on the Dr Shank minutes of the Board and forward a copy to the family of Trustee Shank. A motion was duly made and seconded by a number Letter of of the Directors,who,while regretting the loss of Dr Shank as same President of this Board,referring to the activity and interest he had shown during his incumbency,offered favorable comment on the judgement which had been shown by the City Board in selecting such an one to represent the City's interest. 4 am. responding to the wishes of the Board of Directors of this organization in communicating to ypu their full approval of your selection,in the assurance that Dr Shank will serve you well and faithfully in the perfmrmance of the duties which may devolve upon him. On motion by Trustee Harris seconded by Trustee Wharton the Clerk was instructd to issue free permit. r. I l The monthly report of the Board of helth by Dr V G Presson Health Dept Repiwas read and on motion by Trustee Harris seconded by Trustee Mitchell same .was accepted and ordered filed, This being the time set for canvassing the vote of the Special Municipal Election which was held on the 16th day of Special Elect- November the Clerk read Resolution No 54i0, a copy of which is ��+ on file in the office of the City Clerk and attachedchereto ion canvass and made ,a part of these minutes, and on motion by Trustee ` e �x Wharton,seconded by Trustee Harris and carried, same was passed and adopted bj the following vote: Ayes Trustees Wharton,Mitchell,Shank,Harris,Boster Noes Trustees None • At this time the Clerk gave ordinance No 290 its first reading. On motion By Trustee Wharton,seconded by Trustee Harris the Typewriter City Controller was granted permission to purchase a new L C purchase Smith No S, 14 inch carriage typewriter: i The president invited those present in the audiance having matters to bring before the Board to do so at this time. I Wall on Ed E Woods asked that permission be granted to build the retaining wall of a sump hole on sidewalk location on 14th J sidewalk Street near Main Street.After some discussion the request was � informally denied. C Mr Wm Berkeley of Los Angeles,representing_ the Southern Berkely on Counties Gas Co addressed the Board relative to the purchase purchase of Gas of the City' s gas distributing system. No definite conclusions were reached other than an agreement by the Board to meet with the System officials of the Southern Counties Company in executive session at 7:00 o 'clock P M Tuesday December 14th. H V Anderson,Ma.nager of the Huntington Beach Water Company H B Water Co submitted a map of the proposed new water lines to take care of new drilling activity and for relief of the present shortage for better Svc at the same time expressing the willingness of his Company to 1 co-operate with the Board in solving the difficulty and furnishing an adaquate supply of water for fire purposes and drinking water. On motion by Trustee Wharton,seconded by Trustee Shank the City Attorney was authorized to negotiate with the Sou Pao Ry Hartford Cros.=inLfor a crossing at Hartford and the railroad and for closing g the crossing at' Indianapolis Street.
