City Hall Jan. 16th, 1928
Pursuant of adjournment of Jan 3rd the Board was called to
order at 7 PM by Mayor Boster.
Roll _ca.11 . Councilmen present: Boster, Andrews, Mitchell , Shank, Harris.
Clerk pro-tem In the absence of City Clerk C R Furr the chair appointed
J W Mitchell Councilman J W Mitchell as Clerk of the Board pro-tempore.
A report was made by Attorney A J Thedieck relative to plans
Sciots meeting of the Sciots to hold a meeting and parade in this City on Jan.
Jan 28' 28th, and on motion by Shank seconded by Mitchell the Street
Superintendent was instructed to see that the City was properly
decorated for the occasion.
The Cl(.rk read a letter from Jas S Lawshe of the Huntington
Beach Company regarding the proposed leasing of Block 417 for
RE: leasing of oil drilling, , advising that the Huntington Beach Company would
Block 417 join with the City of Huntington Beach in .a Tease to' W E McCa�lin
provided the form of the lease met with the approval of the
Huntington Beach Company, and provided further , that the City
of Huntington Beach take all responsibility in the matter, it
being understood that the Huntington Beach Company was joining
in the undertaking at , the request of the City of Huntington Beach.
On motion by Councilman Harris, seconded by Councilman
Andrews, the -City Attorney was directed to negotiate and do
whatever is necessary to consumate the lease to W E McCaslin in
conjunction with the Huntingtln Beach Company, using the
Lessee to file Standard Oil Co form of lease and. providing that the lessee be
required to file a surety bond in the amount of $5000.00 for each
surety bond well drilled on the property. Said bond to indemnify the City
against failure of the lessee to place the grounds inas , good
i condition as at the present time in the event oil is not produced
inppaying quantities in each and every well so drilled. Motion
put and carried by .the following vote:
Ayes Councilman Andrews ,Mitchell, Shank, Harris, Boster.

13th St storm City Attorney Thedieck made a. report on the question of
permitting drainage from territory outside of the district
drain. permitting
to run into the 13th St. storm drain, to the effect
that so long as this was done by the City of Huntington Beach,
and the storm drain used merely as a conductor, it would be proper. .
RE: Moving of The Clerk read a letter from the City Engineer regarding the
Radio tower moving of the Radio Antenna tower from Main St . junction of Magnolia
to the foot of Main St at Ocean Ave. Mr Rosson stated that the
tower could be moved d,hd that it would be necessary to anchor guy
wires on property owned by the Huntington Beach Company.
. Police Dept The Clerk read a letter from Chief of Police R Choat expressing
appreciation the appreciation of the memberbr� of the Police Department for their
action in allowing one day leave of absence each 'week.
On motion by Mitchell seconded by Harris the appointment of
E A Shaffer E A Shaffer as patrolman was approve;
patrolman a,noroved
The Clerk read a letter from fire chief. J K Sargent making
the following requests:
Req.uestsof 1. . . That he be authorized to employ an additional driver.
Fire Chief 2. . . That a car Ige furnished for use of the fire chief.
3—That a provision be made for a relief driver.
The effect of changes in insurance- rates was discussed by
Insurance rates the Board and the City Attorney was instructed to investigate and
discussed - larger determine what cari be done in regard to getting larger water
,fvater mains mains installed in parts of the City where the present water

The Clerk read a letter from the Woman' s Club calling attention
Condition of to the condition of the Huntington Beach Cemetery Gounds and re-
H B Cemetery questing the Board to write a letter to the Huntington Beach Companyy"
asking that the grounds be put in better condition. On motion by
Harris seconded by Mitchell the Clerk ww directed to write the
Huntington Beach Company.

On motion by Shank seconded by Mitchell the following

Mainous & Son, restaurant, 110 Main St.
License renei'al On motion by Harris seconded by Shank the application of
ao-oroved Max Schenfield to renew junk dealer ' s license was approved.
The Clerk gave Ordinance No 313 its second and last . reading
Ord. f313 passed and on motion by Shank seconded by 11ilitchell same was passed and
adopted by the following vote:
Ayes Councilmen Andrews, Mitchell , Shank, Harris, Boster.
Noes None
On motion by Shank seconded by Mitchell the Plans and
Improvements of specifications for the improvement of Main Street at and near
Mash St near 14th the intersection of 14th Street by installation of certain
storm drain,,-culverts wa3s approved and adopted and the City Clerk
directed to advertise for bids for doing the work, bids to be
opened and oxamined on Monday February 6th at 7: 30 PM/
On motion by Harris seconded by Shank the Clerk ways
Advertise for bids directed to advertise for bids for furnishing the City Street
for St Dept truck Department with a 1 or 12 ton truck chassis and cab, bids to be
chassis opened Feb 6th, 7: 30 PM.
Paint City yard On motion by Harris seconded by Shank the Street Supt.
& camp grounds bldgs .was directdd to paint city yard and camp ground buildings.
On motion by Harris seconded by 1itchell demands 9231 .
Demands paid to 9257 were approved and ordered paid.
There being no further business to c e before the Board,
Adjourned on motion by Harris seconded by Sh n it adjourned.
