HomeMy WebLinkAbout1928-02-14 M I N U T E S - Council. Chamber, Feb. 14, 1928 Pursuant to adjournment of February 6th the Council was called to order at 7 PM by Mayor Boster. Roll Call Councilmen present: Andrews, Mitchell , Shank, Harris, Boster. The Clerk read a Resolution of the Planning Board, approved by the Chamber of Commerce asking the Council to place on the Resolution of ballot at the April 8th Municipal Election a proposition to res- Planning Board teadtrict from oil well drilling a district bounded by 6th St , Orange re: restricted Ave to loth, loth to Crest , Crest to llth, llth to Lake Ave , Lake district Ave to 1st St, 1st St to the Dean high tid.e line , and along the high tide line to its intersection with 6th street projected. y Request tabled. On motion by Harris seconded by Andrews 'the request was Feb. 20th. tabled until 7 PM Monday February 20th. This being the date set for awarding bids for furnishing the City Street Dept with a 1 or lz ton truck, on motion by Bid for truck for Harris seconded by Andrews all bids were rejected except that St Dept awarded to of W D Young and the bid off W D Young accepted at his bid of W'D Young $649.00 less allowance of $65 ;for the Ford truck now in use by the City, motion put and carried by - the following vote: Ayes Councilmen Andrews, Mitchell , Shank, Harris, Boster. Noes None Purchase body for The Controller was, on motion by Harris seconded by Shank new truck directed to authorize purchase fetal dump body for the new truck and arrange to have same installed at the price of $170.00. Issue lunch room On motion by Harris seconded by Andrews the Clerk was license authorized to issue lunch room license to Mrs C E Lotz to be conducted at 220 - 12th Street. City Engineer Rosson submitted a letter objecting to the , Engineer objects manner and material used in wiring the city garages, and on manner of wiring motion by Shank seconded by Andrews the matter was laid over city garages until . Monday February 20th for action. This being the date set for awarding or rejecting bids for the improvement of Main Street near Wesley' Ave. by installation Bids rejected for of storm drains, the City Engineer submitted a report in which storm grains. the Council was advised to reject all bids and do the work by day labor for the reason that he believed the work could be done more economically in that manner. On motion by Shank seconded by Mitchell all bids were rejected and the City Engineer directed to proceed with the work; motion Dut and carried by the following vote: Ayes Councilmen Andrews, Mitchell, Shank, Harris, Boster. Noes None Repair Boy Scout on motion by Harris seconded by Shank the Street Supt. Cabin roof was directed to proceed to repair roof of the Boy Scout Cabin. On motion by Shank, seconded by Mitchell the application Cut curb of W D Young to cut curb and install driveway at 727 Main Street was allowed. Petition to pro- The Clerk read a petition signed by approximately 156 hibit'.tlot machines citizens asking the Council to take such action as necessary etc. to prohibit the use of slot machines and other gambling devices • within the City Limits. On motion by Shank, seconded by Harris the Clerk was Chief of Police to directed to instruct the Police Department ( Chief of Police) to enforce ordinances enforce observance of Ordinances ,.against the use of slot machines on gambling devices beginning March lst , . 1928. Motion put and carried by the following vote: .; Ayes Councilmen Andrews, Mitchell , Shank, Harris, Boster. Noes None 3t� Ordinance The Clerk gave Ordinance No 314, Boulevard stops its passed and adopted second and last reading at this time, and on motion by Shank, seconded by Mitchell same was passed andedopted by the following vote; Ayes Councilmen Andrews, Mitchell, Shank, Harris, Boster Noes None. • ems; i��� Dance Pavilion On motion by Mitchell seconded by Harris the Huntington open until 2 AEI - Beach Dance pavilion was allowed to remain open until 2 AM, Feb. for Fireman Ball 15th for the Firemen ' s Ball. s - C W Hankie addressed the Council, stating that he represented Citizens discuss approximately 20 citi.zens whm protested the placing on the April restriction of oil9th ballot any proposition to restrict oil well drilling in any well drilling on portion of the City. McDonough, A D Marshall and others voicing the sentiment of Mr Hanke After some discussion the petitioners were informed by the Wishes of prop�rtychair that the wishes of the property owners were to be respected owners to be ryes- and that no action would be taken unless promp0ed by a petition ' nected consisting of 75 or 80 per cent of the property owners to be directly affected by such action. No formal action was taken by the Council. Demands paid On motion by Harris seconded ,by Shank demands numbered 9418 to 9424 were approved and ordered paid. Progress being made The City Engineer reported (verbally) that progress was on eater rates , being made on investigation of water rates, electric lights, electric lights and objection to the disagreeable conditions caused by the and.
