HomeMy WebLinkAbout1928-04-16 365 ' M I N U T E S City Hall, April 16th, 1928. r Pursuant to adjournment of April 2nd, the Council was called to order at 7:00 o' clock PM by Mayor Boster: Roll Call Councilmen present: Andrews, Mitchell , Shank, Harris, Boster. ' absent : None. Minutes approved The Clerk read the minutes of April 2nd, and on\rhotion by Harris seconded by �Mitchell, same were approved asp read. On motion by Shank seconded by Harris the applications of Applications T. Casson to operate restaurant at 104 Main St and that of G. M. accepted for Taylor to operate lunch stand at Ocean Ave. East of lst street ,- lunch rm & were accepted and the Clerk authorized to issue .license for same. restaurant On motion by Harris seconded by Mitchell the 'surety bond of John S. Bales to engage in the Electrical contracting business Surety bond was approved and ordered filed. approved T'he Clerk read the resignation of City Attorney A J Thedieck, and on motion by Mitchell seconded by Harris it was accepted. Resignation of Followed a short address by Mir Thedieck in which he thanked the City Attorney Council for their support during the past two years and pledged A J Thedieck his support of the new Council to be installed. Demands paid On motion by Mitchell seconded by Andrews , demands numbered 9705 t0 9739 inclusive were approved and ordered paid. Recess At this time, 7: 30 PM the Mayor declared a 30 minute recess. Council again called to order at 8:00 o ' clock PM by Mayor Boster, and after checking the returns of the Municipal election , of April 9th the Chair directed the -Clerk to read Resolution Number 607 declaring the result of said election; a copy of said # Resolution No. 607 is attached 'hereto and made a past of these Resolution 607 minutes. Thereupon the Mayor announced that SA2.,UEL R, BOV1EN, BAYARD BUTCHER and ELSON G. CONRAD had been duly elected to serve as City Councilmen for the full term of four years, that Chas. R. Furr and Joseph Vavra respectively were elected City Clerk and City Treasurer for- the full term of four years. Mayor Boster then administered the oath of office to Chas R. Furr newly elected City Clerk, who in turn administered the . oath to Bayard Butcher, Samuel R. Bowen and Elson G. Conrad newly elected Councilmen and Joseph Vavra newly elected City Treasurer. Retiring Council On motion by Harris seconded by Mitchell the retiring Council adjourned adjourned. The meeting was again called to order by past Mayor Boster, who informed the newly formed Council that nominations for S.R. Bowen Mayor were in order whereupon on motion by Councilman Harris elected Mayor seconded by Councilman Mitchell the nomination of Samuel R Bogen was accepted and the Clerk directed to cast the unanimous vote of the Council in f-aivor of Mr Bowen as' Mayor and Chairman of the new Council. Outgoing Mayor Boster then delivered the gavel to Mayor Bowen. Committees Mayor Bowen announced that by unanimous consent of the new appointed council the following corcl,._littees were appointed. FINANCE: Butcher and. C,orirad. POLICE and FIFE: Bowen,Butcher ,Conrad,hitchell ,Harris. STREETS and PARKS: Conrad,Harris,Bowen. HEALTH and SANITATION: Conrad,11Iitchell , Butcher. GAS and SEWERS: Conrad,t«itchell,Butcher. uUSIC and PRO14OTION: Conrad, Butcher ,Mitchell. BUILDINGS and IMRROVEi.IENTS: Butcher , Harris, Conrad. WATER Bowen, Harris, Conrad. This was followed by short talks by Mayor Bowen, Chas G Boster, Short Talks by Councilmen, Butcher, Conrad, Harris, Iitchell, City Clerk C R Furr new Members and City Treasurer Joseph Vavra. and by citizens, Dr G A Shank, Chas and. citizens J. Andrews, Mrs 11inni.e Higgins, J F Catching, G F McKelvey and Ross Brown, in which the newly elected officers expressed the desire to worts for the best inter ests of the City andtrie citizens pledged co- opera'ion and support of the officials. 366 .� y City Engineer Rosson reported that no definite decision had RE: 1'Vater supply been reached in his investigation of the inadequate Water sup-cly for fire fighting for fire fighting purposes.
