City Hall , Monday May 7th, 1928.
The Council was called to order at 8:00 PM by Mayor Bowen.
Roll call Councilmen present : Mitchell,Conrad,Harris,Bowen.
" absent : Butcher.
The meeting was opened with the announcement , by Mayor Bowen,
of the untimely death of our friend and fellow citizen, Dale M.
Resolution of Peters, and by unanimous request of the Council , a Resolution of
condolence condolence was adopted by 'he Council and the Clerk directed to
deliver a copy to the sorrowing widow and children.
Mr Chandler of the Orange County Health Dept addressed the
Sanitation com, Council and requested that one of their number be appointed to
to confer ''with confer from time to time with the Health Dept. Mayor Bowen,
Health Dept. with the consent of the Council , directed the Health and
Sanitation Committee, composed of Conrad, Mitchell and Butcher
to designate one of their number to so act.
Minutes for April The Clerk read the minutes of' the Council for April 16th,
approved 23rd and 30" , and on motion by Harris seconded by Conrad same
were approved as read
The Clerk read a communication from Engineer Rosson in which
it was recommended that the matter of increased water service for
RE; increased. wa.terfire fighting be taken up with the Huntington Beach Water Co.
service for fire direct rather than through the Railroad Commission, and that the
fighting Mayor be authorized to sign a stipulation on behalf of the City
asking withdrawal of action with said Commission. On motion by
Mitchell seconded by Harris the request was gra.rited and `the
Mayor authorized to execute.
Rider for Surety The Clerk was directed to secure rider for Surety Bonof
Bond-C.R. Furr City Clerk, C. R. Furr , newly elected. //
The Clerk read Resolution No 608 fixing the salaries of
Resolution #608 certain City officials, and on -motion by Conrad seconded by Harris
same was -gassed and adopted by the following mote:
Ayes Councilmen Mitchell , Conrad, Harris, Bowen.
Noes Councilmen None
Absent Councilman Butcher.
Harris on Finance Mayor Bowen appointed Councilman Harris to act on the Finance
Com. in absence of Committee in the absence of Councilman Butcher.

The Clerk read Resolution No 60.9 authorizing heads of
departments to appoint_ certain clerks and deputies and designating
Resolution #609 salaries to be paid. On motion by Harris seconded by Mitchell
Resolution No. 609 was passed and adopted by the following vote:
Ayes Councilmen - Mitchell , Harris, Conrad.
Noes " None
Absent " Butcher and Bowen.
Mayor returned to Mayor Bowen returned and took the Chair at this time, 8:50 PM.

The Clerk read Resolution No 610 at this time, in which
certain appointive officers were authorized to employ deputies and
Resolution #610 clerks at the salaries named in baid Resolution. On motion by
Harris seconded by Mitchell same was passed and adopted by the
following vote:
Ayes Councilmen Mitchell , Conrad, Harris, Bowen.
Noes " None
Absent if Butcher.
A petition was presented d. r� cl, in which a number of
interested citizens and residents along 7th St and Ocean Ave
Petition against protested against the construction of a gasoline and oil service
gasoline and oil station being erected at the intersection of 7th St . and. Ocean
service station Ave. W. J. Bristol also addressed the Council, voicing his
7th & Ocean protest and asking that the matter be deferred until next meeting
of the Council. The request of Ilr Bristol was granted and the
petition• filed.

Adv. in H B News The matter of advertising in the Huntington Beach News was
deferred deferred for further consideration.
On motion by Mitchell , seconded by Harris , the written

an amount not exceeding $1 ,500.00 to defray expenses. Motion

Request of C A City Attorney Blodget announced that in the matter of Clyde'

motion by Conrad seconded by Harris same were accepted and
ordered filed. Mayor Bowen suggested that reports in future
be made in the form of comparative statements by month and year.
Application of Geo.lr The application of Geo. W. Lowry to operate peanut stand

An invitation to the Council and City officials to attend the
Invitation to Southwest -Exposition at Long Beach beginning May 26th :was read
SW Exposition at and the Clerk directed to reply to the effect that representatives
Long Beach from this City would attend but that noufloat would be entered.

Purchasie lawn :cult- On :notion by Harris seconded by Conrad the Controller was

To prepare Ord. of City Engineer Rosson that an ordinance be dravrn revising she

to 9867 were approved and ordered paid.
