City Hall , May 21st, 1928.
Pursuant to adjournment of May 7th, the Council was called to
order at 7:30 P111 by Mayor Bowen.
Roll call Councilmen present: Bowen, Mitchell , Conrad, Harris
" absent Butcher.
On motion by Mitchell seconded by Conrad the application of the
Shell Oil Co. Shell Oil Co. to erect and operate service station at the corner of
Ser. Sta. 7th St. and Ocean Ave. was approved.

r The following motion by Conrad: "That the city enter into an
agreement with the Huntington Beach News to run a full page display
advertisement in the News weekly for a period not exceeding three
RE. Adv. in months at the rate of $80. 00 per issue, plus expense for cuts and
H. B.News that payment be madd from the Music and Promotion fund" motion
seconded by Mitchell , put and carried.
R.: Letters were read from City Engineer Rosson and J. W Ludlow
Repair of pier of the University of Southern California relative to repair of :the
llunicipal Pier. No action was taken other than instructions from
the Chair that the matter be carried over to the next regular -meeting
of the Council.

This being the time set for a hearing in the matter of can-
{ cellation of license of Clyde A. Tetters, junk dealer, the Mayor
invited Mr Teeters and his Attorney Mir Hawthorn to appear before the .
Cancellation of Council and show cause why license should not be revoked. Whereupon
C A Teeters Attorney Hawthorn addressed the Council in behalf of Mr Te(�ters,
license stating that his client was of good reputation and askedMe be
allowed to apply for cancellation of license rather than have the
Council take action to revoke. On motion by Harris seconded by
Mitchell , the request was granted.
Com. meets with The Chair appointed a committee composed of Councilmen Conrad
J H Macklin and Mitchell to meet with Mr. J H Macklin at 11 AM Wednesday,May
23rd to discuss matter of refund for sewer.
' Painters license After some discussion, the matter of Painters ' license and
complaint tabled complaint submitted by W R Higgins against certain contractors. in
that they were 7:ot paying -the license as required by City Ord- —
inance , on motion by Harris seconded by Conrad same was tabled.
Engineer Rosson submitted -report covering the advisability of
allowing closed tents on the Beach. Mr Rosson advised that the beach
z RE: closed tentsfront was private property of the Huntington Beach Co. and that he
on beach believed that Company would o_opose any action favoring camping on the
Beach at the present title. The Chair ordered that the invest$gation
be continued.
Lo<r;ry application . The application of `,Geo. W. Lowery to conduct peanut sales
denied stand on Ocean Ave. east of 1st street was denied.
Lunch stand On motion by Mitchell seconded by ,Conrad the application of
Approved 'R E Dietz to conduct lunch stand at corner of lath and Acacia
was approved and the license department authorized to issue license.
Parking of autos The application of the Avalon Hotel to park automobiles on

Request for oiled The request of Mrs }Marie J. Weiner for oiled street in
streets referred to front of lots 1 ,20 Block G Tract 837 was referred to the
Com. on st.& parks committee on streets and parks.
Communication of R. Chodt, Chief of Police recommending

grading and oiling of portions of Ocean Ave. was .referred to
Repair of certain the committee on Streets and Parks. Also same on Chief Choat ' s
streets and stop request for stop signals at 3rd, jth, 6th, 7th, 8th streets and
signals referredto certain streets_ n the vicinity of Geneva and Frankfort as
Cott. on Sts & parks recommended verbally by Mr Ed Manning.
Reply to letter of The Clerk was directed to reply to letter of A B Chambers
A B Chambers offering to sell lots 9 and 10 , summit tract to city and
re. lots for sale state that the City did not at the present time need the lots.

Prepare Res. for Attorney Blodget was directed to prepare necessary
weed cleaning resolution for weed cleaning, this on recom eddation of Street
Sup.t Rosson.
Application of Gevoge On motion by Contad seconded by Mitchell the application.

to take part in discussion of the 4th of July celebration.

Council , Chief of to :meet with the Police Chief and Police Commission at 4:30 Pia?
Police & Mohn ,'Noods, Monday May 28th in the Council Chamber for hearing on the
Kesterson resignation of certain police officers.
On motion by Conrad, seconded by Harris the Council
