HomeMy WebLinkAbout1928-08-27 390 M I N U T E S City Hall , Aug. 27th, 1928. Pursuant to adjournment of August 20th, the Council was called to order at 7:30 PIl+i by Mayor Bowen. Councilmen present"i; Butcher, 'Conrad, Mitchell, Harris, Bowen. Mayor Bowen announced that this was the time set for further Idle oil discussion relative to idle oil derricks. Attorney Blodget informed derricks the Council that he had not yet completed his investigation and asked fur further time in which to confer with the State Mining Bureau. Mr Blodget' s request was granted and the Clerk directed to , call a joint meeting of the Council and interested oil operators for further discussion immediately after receipt of advise from Attorney Blodget. The Clerk read a letter signed by C A Bailey, proprietor of a beach front concession, in whichcomplaint was made against the action of the Huntington Beach Company in ordering campers from + Tenting on the beach, and asking that either members of the Council or business beach front men be appointed to confer with Mr J S Lawshe, manager of the Huntington Beach Company. General discussion followed,at the termination of which the Clerk was directed to write various other beach cities and secure copies of ordinances in similar cases. On motion by Harris seconded by Conrad the application of Jim Ballard James Ballard for license to conduct pool and billiard parlor at pool license 117 Main Street was approved and the license department authorized OKd. to issue license. Appl.Ma.ry D The application of Mary D Benning to remove trees in front - of Benning to re— lots 17 and 18, Block 704 V D M, was referred to the street move trees. committee for investigation and report next meeting: Engineer Rosson submitted an estimate for- erectimg boat house . Boat house for life guard and recommended that the work be delayed until next season. No action was taken. The Clerk read a letter from Engineer Rosson relative to Taxi stands parking stalls for taxi cars at the Pacific Electric depot entrance, P E Depot also request for loading zone in the wile location. The City & Attorney informed the Council that it was within the province of the } loading zone.. . Chief of Police to order non parking space for a distance of twenty— five feet from street corners. The matter of loading zone and taxi parking space was referred to the fire committee for report. Street Suet Rosson asked that the ordinance for Sainting Dhange color of street crossing and parking zpnes be changed to read range color parking lines instead of White to correspond with markings used in other cities and districts. Referred to the City Attorney. The Clerk read a letter from the Chamber of Commerce offering its support and cooperation in the matter of regulating beach front camping.
