City Hall_ , Sept 17th, 1928.
Pursuant to adjournment , the Council was called to order at
7:30 PM by Mayor Bowen.
Councilmen present: Bowen, Butcher, Conrad, Mitchell , Harris.
l�ew Contract Mayor Bowen announced that this was the time set for receiving `<
with O. C. report on the proposed new contract with the Orange County Health Dept;
Health Dept. Councilman Conrad submitted copies of the contract and advised the
Sept 1 5th,1928 Council that it met with his approval. On motion by Conrad seconded by
to Mitchell the contract was accepted and the Mayor authorized to execute
Sept 14th,1931same on behalf of the City of Huntington Beach. Motion put and carried
by the following vote:
Ayes, Councilmen Butcher, Conrad, Mitchell , Harris, Bowen.
Noes Councilmen None
Ord. 320 The Clerk gave Ordinance No 320 its first reading ( in revised
Idle derricks form) at this time.
Cut trees On ,motion by Conrad, seconded by Harris, Mrs Benning was given
Bl. 704 VDM permission to remove trees in front of her property in Block 704 V D M.
Remove trees On motion by Harris seconded by Mitchell the Street Supt was
'alley B1 604 directed to remove eight small eucalyptus trees from alley in rear of
lots 8,9 and 10 Block 604 V D M.
On motion by Conrad seconded by Butcher the City Clerk .was
Restaurant authorized to issue the following license for conducting lunch counters:
license J H Nellis, 17th & Main St . , A J Severson, 328 - llth St . , Thos G.
McFarland, 201 Main Street, V B Barton, 101 Main St.
Garage The Clerk was authorized to issue garage license as follows on
license. motion by Mitchell seconded by Conrad: W F Lindner, 214 - 5th St . , i
Homer Thornton 5th & Main St.
80 acres water The Clerk read a communication from C H ?Ellis, R F D 45 , Box
bearing land 179, agent for Aldrich Land Company in which an offer was made to
offered for sell the City 80 acres of "white water bearing land for $80,000, terms
sale to . City *$20,000 cash, balance $6,000. 00 per annum, interest 6fo. Land located {
as follows: SW 1/4 of the NE 1/ of sec 1 Twp 6 S�.nRange 11 West L
containing 40 acres
NW 1/4 of the SE 1/4. of sec 1, Twp 6 S, Range 11 West, containing
40 acres;
which was referred to the City Engineer for report.
The Clerk read communications from the Business Men' s Association
H B Business substantially as follows; A request that the Council at the city' s
Men ' s Assn. expense, employ Elmer Lee for a definite time, to encourage people
to live in the City: A request that the Council pass an ordinance
prohibiting the distribution of circulars and shopping news in the
City; and a vote of confidence in the Council' s efforts to secure
the beach front for the benefit of the City. The matter was referred
to a committee composed of Councilmen Conrad, Butcher and Mitchell
for report.
The Clerk read a request from the Orange County Coast Asso-
ciation for $250 to help defray advertising expense. This was re-
ferred 'to the Music & Promotion Committee with the suggestion that
they confer with Mr J A Armitage relative to status of subscriptions
of various coast cities.
De-.ma.nds On motion bye Harris, seconded by Conrad, demands numbered 384 to
404 inclusive were approved and ordered paid.
The Clerk read monthly reports of the Chief of Police, Police
Monthly Judge, Engineer, Treasurer and City Clerk for the month of August and
reports on motion by Conrad seconded by Mitchell same were accepted and ordered
filed.
On motion by Butcher seco ed by ra the Council adjourned.
