The Council was called to order at 7 :30 PM by Mayor Bowen: Councilmen present: Bowen,Butcher, Conrad,Mitchell ,Ha.rris. > The Clerk read the minutes of October 1st , 15th and 22nd, Minutes which were , on motion by Conrad, seconded by Harris, approved as read. The Clerk announced that the following prices had been sub- Police car mitted for furnishing the Police Department with a new touring car; purchase authorized. 0 A Haley, Santa Ana, Chrysler.. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . On motion by Conrad seconded by Mitchell the recommendation was approved and the Con- troller authorized to make the purchase of a new Ford Touring car at the price above quoted. Engineer Rosson submitted a, written recommendation that the Reduce pier rental of the pier fishing and tackle concession be reduced to concession renta)$5. 00 per month during the winter months of November to April inclusive. On motion by Harris seconded by Butcher the recommend- ation was approved and the reduction authorized. The Clerk presented demand of the Chamber of Commerce covering salaries of the Assistant secretary for the month of October. After some discussion the Council decided that such payment was not regularly authorized �-.nd recommended the the demand be not paid. Main and Engineer Rosson reported that he expected estimate of the cost Ocean lighting of ornamental lighting at the intersection of Main St and Ocean Ave,. within a few days. Mr Rosson also informed- the Council that he expected additional Pier information from Mr' Nicholson, harbor engineer , relative to repairs recommended on the municipal pier. The Clerk read a letter from Joe Paladino asking tha.t� the City Joe Paladino' allow him to purchase either all or a portion. of lot 5 block 301 for lots residential purposes. The matter was referred to Engineer Rosson and the City (Controller with instructions to secure an offer from Mr Pa.ladino for all of that portion of Block 301 not in use for street purposes. Band W H Gallienne appealed to the Council for $60. 00 additional funds Armistice day. to furnish music for Armistice day celebration Nov 12th. After a short recess the Music and Promotion Committee reported favorable and on motion by Harris seconded by Butcher the request was granted. cut curb On motion by Harris seconded by Butcher permission was granted J W Mitchell to cut curb at lot 25 , block 206, for construction of driveway. Reset trees in Controller C R Furr was directed to secure estimate for replacing cityy hall park with palms the dead trees in the City Hall park. - Upon recommendation of fire chief Sargent the salary of fireman L E Hill L E Hill was increased to second year rate of $165. 00 per month salary increase commencing November 1st. This on motion by Conrad seconded by Harris, put and carried. Trees On motion by Conrad seconded by Mitchell permission was given E A Suter to remove eucalyptus tree in front of lots 1 and 2,block S10,1 Appraisal of The Clerk read a letter from Mr H A Mason who p-roposes to make city. a new appraisal of city taxable property. The Clerk was directedto make reply an4ta.te that the Council cannot at this time recommend this work be done. 402 ifs Derrick License The matter of collecting delinquent license was referred to the City Attorney for report at next .meeting. Res. 614 Resolution No 61arelative to demolition of idle derrick in Derrick B1 711 block 711 W P tract was read by the Crk and on motion by Conrad seconded by Mitchell Resolution No 61P was passed and adopted by the following vote: Ayes Councilmen: Butcher , Conrad, Mitbilell, Harris Bowen. Noes if None. ' On motion by Conrad seconded by Harris the City Attorney was Deed to directed to draft and submit resolution accepting deed to a Utica. St. certain portion of Utica Street. On motion by Conrad seconded by Mitchell the Clerk was directed to issue the following license: Per.riits and Mainons & Woods, restaurant 416 Ocean Ave . , Elsie Nelson,Lunch License room, 507 - 15th street and iu:rs W H Griffin, pool hall , 118 Main St. On motion by Harris seconded by Bitbher demands numbered 515 to Demands 620 were approved and ordered paid.
