City Hall , Feb l8th, 1929•
Pursuant to adjournment of Feb 4th, the Council was
called to order at 7:30 PM by Mayor Bowen.
Councilmen present: Bowen, Butcher , Conrad, Mitchell ,
Harris.
Engineer Rosson informed the Council , in a written
Pier repair report; that the proposed improvement of the pier by the
wooden piling. use of wooden piling as recommended by E B Stevens was
practical except that portion on the land end of the pier.
No action taken by the Council.
The Clerk read a letter from Rev Jno M Barnhart
Jto. Barnhart Re thanking the Council and City Engineer for their prompt
wiring derrick action in having derrick in Block 511 properly guyed.
Derrick wiring Attorney Blodget informed the Council that he-was.
Ofdinance not ready to submit ordinance for guy-1xiring derricks.
Ben Munn Engineer Rosson was directed to investigate further
derrick the matter of properly guying derrick owned by Ben Mun
in Block 617.
Paladino lots Engineer Rosson stated that' he had nothing new to
report on the sale of lots 1 ,345 Block 301 , Paladino.

Additional lots Councilman Mitchell advised nothing to report on
City yard purchase of lots adjo3,-ning city yard.
On motion by Conrad seconded by Mitchell , the City
Bus loading zone Clerk was directed to prepare resolution creating bus
loading and unloading zones in accordance ivith the re-
commendations of Chief of Police Steward.
The Clerk read a letter from Wm J Lock , executive
secreatry of the League of Municipalities in which Mr
Uniform building Lock advised that this city adopt the uniform building
code code adopted by the Pacific Coast Building Officials
Conference. Engineer Rosson was instructed. to secure
statements from City officials opposed to the code.
Attorney Blodget informed the Council that the
Helen Darst claim of Helen L Darst had been allowed by the Industrial
insurance claim Accident Commission. The Clerk was directed to confer
with Mrs Darst and ascertain if the matter was settled
satisfactory to her.
Engineer Rosson submitted a detailed report on
the statue 'of the city' s gas light system, and. accompanied
Gas leakage, the report with charts showing the increase in loss from
leakage due to rusted gas lines. Mr Rosson also made
recommendations for economy in use of gas in the various
city departments .
On motion by Harris sec(,nd.ed by Mitchell the City
Engineer was directed to proceed at once to repair gas
light lines between 14th street and Palm avenue along
Main street. Also to prepare report on the estimated ;- 1
cost of replacing the present gas lights C�� woV
with electric lights.
Use of 13th S; On motion by Mitchell seconded by Butcher the
storm drain for action of the City Engineer in denying the use of the
waste water denied 13th street storm drain for waste water disposal was
upheld by the Council.
On motion by Harris seconded by Mitchell the
Texas Oil Co. application of the Texas Co. to engage in the electrical
Bond contracting business was approved.
On motion by Butcher seconded by Mitchell the license
Junk and Cafe clerk was authorized, to ussue license to Max Shenfield to
license conduct junk yard at 13th and Main; also license to M Kelly
to conduct lunch counter at 201 Main Street.

On motion by Harris seconded by Mitchell the
y Game concession application of Mr and Mrs 17 L Harvey to operate "Pitch
' till you wine conces^ion on the beach front was approved.
On motion by Oonrad seconded. by Harris , permission
Mussels was granted C K Morrison to remove mussels from the
pier center piling under the supervision of the City
Engineer.
On motion by Harris seconded by Butcher the Clerk
was directed to fill in recommendation blank of the Union
R Choat Tool Company on account of the sere}ces of R Cooat ,
reference former assistant Chief of Police, also to accompany same
with a letter of recommendation from the Council.
gThe invitation of J K Sargent for the Council to
Firemen' s attend the Orange County Firremen' s Association meeting
meeting at 7: 30 PM Feb 25th was accepted.
Councilman Mitchell moved. that a check be made to
the Orange County. Coast Association in the amount of
Orange County $250 amd forwarded to J A Armitage , payment to be on
Coast Assn. condition that other 0o ast cities pay their quoto or
check returned. The motion was ruled out of order by
Mayor Bowen for the reason that the Council had pre—
viously gone on record as agreeable to payment by the
city if and. when all other cities have paid in a like
amount.
Adjourned. On motion by Conrad seconded by Butcher the Council �
adjourned.
