All Councilmen were present. Mayor Bowen announced that meeting was convened.. Main St. primarily for the purpose of hearing discussions on the lighting dis— various types of street lighting equipment. The following cussion representatives respor�ed to Mayor Bowen' s invitation to address the Council; r Marbelite: Wm J Fritz , Marbelite Corporation, Phone 3249 Long Beach Ave. , Los Angeles , Calif. AXridge —0184 Mr Fritz approved the specifications calling for Marbelite lighting standards for the following reasons : > Cost of maintenance---------Nothing. Cost of installation----As low as other makes , same being from $2. 50 to U-00 per front foot .for the installation of modern two—light high standard complete with Neolite fixtures. That on account of heavy steel reinforcements the ' stand.ards would withstand collision and last indefinitely. Recommended that the Council inspect installations a•t Long Beach boulevard Compton and Lynwood and extended an invitation to the Engineer and Council to visit the 'Marbelite plant. ti R W .Robinson, Associated Wholesale Elect. Phone TRinity 6519 Mr Pendleton recommended the installation' of Union Metal standards because: It is guaranteed. against corrosion, the base and top being of cast iron and the shaft steel with a covering of solid rolled copper. Shaft requires no painting. Shaft guaranteed for 20 years with replacement charge not t6 exceed $5.00 per shaft in the event of destruction from any . cause whatever, Refers.=Council to inspect products in store. Gent. Elect Henry B May, General Electric Co. , lighting unit 5201 Santa Fe Ave. , Los Angeles , Calif. Phone DELa.ware 0961 ; Mr May approves Engineers Specifications for standards , but recommends the installation of General Electric units for ; the reason that: The General Electric Co is a large responsible firm with an established business in Los Angeles and able to give the ; maximum of service on short notice. That the unit is manufactured : complete in Los Angeles with the exception of glassware. That there are no shelves in globes , that the inside is smooth ; and easily cleaned. That there is no glare from the light. Invites Council to visit plant and inspect wares. .Refers Council .to, ins tallations.tra•t: Long Beach, American Ave. , Servil St. , Huntington Park , and in most of Loa Angeles ,City. Walter G. Phone TEstmore 5034 Recommends the installation of King Ferronite Metal Standards and supported_ his argument by reading from reports of Federal Engineers who. selected these standards for 'Washington D. C. That the standard carries a guaranteed strength of 3900 pounds resistance against collision. That the standard it cast iron of uniform thickness. That the metal is rust proof. That approved paint will be guaranteed to last 3 years . That the standard is guaranteed to last 100 years or more., Weight and thickness and workmanship guaranteed. Refers Council to installations at; Torrance, entire city, Inglewood, 400 replacements , Santa Ana, Hermosa Beach and Ontario . Standards manufactured in Sheffield., . Ala.bama. Phone _$taeon 1311 Recommends Lalux lighting standards because; They are made from virgin grantte crushed and, cast on re- inforced steel rods . The standards , unlike cement, will not change color. Also recommends the use of Lalux lighting units and refers the Council to installations at; South Gate , 1200 standards and. units complete. Ocean Park , icier Ave. San Gabriel , San Marino and Monrovia. Invites the Council to inspect plant , at Goodwin Ave. , South of Glendale. At this time , 9 ;00 o ' clock PM the Mayor declared a short Ri2cess recess for the purpose 'of examining lighting fixtures. George R. Harris , representing PRIZMALITE Corp. of Calif. Phone FAber 1788 542 South Broadway, Los Angeles , and W L Jones of the Westing- house Electric Company, 420 South San Pedro St. , Los Angeles , Phone TRinity 8331 gave a demonstration and explaimed the merits of their lighting units and glassware. Mr Jones submitted photographs and .invited the Council to inspect their products at Long Beach (4th and 7th streets) Seaside Blvd and San Pedro St. , Los Angeles; Mr Harris invited the Council to inspect plant at 52nd., and Alameda, Sts Los Angeles. Mayor suggests per- Mayor Bowen suggested, and. the Council agreed, to make a sonal Insp. by Eng. tour of inspection in company vrith Engineer Rosson and report and Council back on Monday April 8th, 7: 30 PM. The Clerk was directed to confer with Chief Steward relative Bus Stop to additional Bus parking ordinances. Traffic Officer Councilman Mitchell ' reported. that Traffic Officer Shaffer Shaffer improving. was improving and would soon be home from the hospital. The Music & Promotion Committee was asked to continue its C of C investigation relative to furnishing funds for the Chamber of Commerce hdvertising. Rig Guying Action on rig guying ordinance deferred one week. r 42.6 Attorney Blodget was asked to investigate and re- Tax sale commend procedure necessary to sell property on account of delinquent taxes. The application of J H Miller for the position of Auto Camp Abdication Auto Park manager was referred to Engineer Rosson. On motion by Harris seconded by Butcher the application Cafe license of Geo W Barness to conduct cafe at 201 Main St. was approved. j Councilman Butcher stated that work on the new License Revised Di.cense Ordinance was progressing and would soon be ready to Ordinance submit to the Council. Attorney Blodget was asked to confer with the committee. Attorney Blodget informed the Council that he would Ord. Circulars prepare and submit ordinance prohibiting the distribution of circulars.
