M I N U T E S
City Hall , May 6th, 1929
The Council was called to order at 8;00 o 'clock P. M. by
Mayor Bowen;
Councilmen present; Bowen, Butcher , Conrad., Mitchell , Harris.
On motion by Conrad, seconded by Harris, the reading of the
minutes for the month of April was dispensed with.

This being the date set by the Council for opening and
Pre-bids on examining pre-bids for furnishing light post and fixtures for
Main Street same for lighting Main Street the Clerk opened `and read the
lights following bids ;

Recess At this time 8: 30 P. M. Mayor Bowen declaxed. a, recess for
the purpose of examining the various bids.
Council again called to order at 10: 30 PM.
Motion by Conrad that the Council accept the pre-bid of
Western Lighting Company, distributors of King Ornamental street
_lighting equipment as follows: Standard. No 2108 at 130.00 each and
Standard No 262 at $75.00 each as shown in their bid,and that the
Council accept the pre-bid of General Electric Company for furnishing
lighting units as shown in- their bid, that the City Engineer be
directed. to prepare plans and specifications accordingly and submit at
next meeting of the Council. Motion seconded by Harris , put and
carried. unanimously.
Roy Patrick , representing the American Legion presented. an
estimated cost of a July 4th celebration which had been prepared at
4th July the informal request of the Council. After some discussion the Council
on motion by Mitchell and seconded. by Butcher committed itself to the ;
expenditure of not to exceed the sum of $1 ,500.00 for the celebration
and asked that the American Legion be called upon to take charge of the
program. The Clerk was directed to so inform the Legion by letter.
The Clerk read a letter from life guard Belshe and approved.
Life Guard by Chief Steward requesting permission to erect a look out tower on the
Beach front. Councilman Harris recommended that floats be provided. for
the safety of bathers. Both matters were referred to the Music and Pro-
motion Committee.
On motion by Mitchell seconded by Conrad the annlica.tion of
J R Avent to operate lunch counter at 1st and Ocean was approved. �
On motion by Mitchell seconded by Conrad the surety bonds of
Bernard. Eldridge and the Electrid Drive Co. were approved and e.ccepted..
Junk The application of IS S Russ to engage in the business of Junk
Collector Collector was referred to the Police Gommission for investigation and
report at next meeting.
Demands On motion by Conrad seconded by Butcher demands numbered 1197
to 1308 were approved and ordered paid.
On motion by Conrad seconded by Harris the Council adjourned
until 7:30 PM, Monday May 13th, 1929.
