M I N U T E S
City Hall , May 13th, 1929•
Pursuant to adjournment of May 6th, the Council was
called to order at 7:30 P. M. by Mayor Bowen:
Councilmen present ; Bowen, Butcher, Conrad, Mitchell , Harris
Councilmen absent None
Auto park The Music and Promotion Committee reported not ready for
disposition of Auto Camp matter. Deferred..
Bldg. Code Engineer Rosson asked that the matter of adopting a uniform
building Code be deferred until next meeting.
On motion by Harris seconded by Conrad , the Council set -May
27th as the date of next meeting of the Council.
The Clerk read resolution No. 621 declaring a weed nuisance ,
!Needs and on motion by Conrad seconded by Harris Resolution No. 621 was
J Res # 621 passed and adopted by the following vote;
Ayes Councilmen Butcher, Conrad, Mitchell , Harris, Bowen,
Noes None
License Action .on license ordinance deferred to next meeting.
Police Dept The recommendation of the Chief of Police for altering certain
Bldg. change construction in the Police Department of the City Hall was referred
to Councilman Harris for investigation.
Palladino Palladino deed not yet ready.

Audit The Council expressed itself as being in favor of ~deferring
audit of city records until next year.

Pier Councilman Harris , nothing to report.
St. Repairs Engineer Rosson reported progress in street repairing stating
that most of the East Side had been completed and that additional
repairs would be made in the oil field..
'j The Street Committee was directed to confer with County
Quincy St. authorities and urge repair of Quincy street extending from the
City limits to the Santa Ana-Costa Mesa road.
The Clerk .read. specifications fcr the installation of ornamental
Main Street lights on and along Main Street from Ocean Avenue to Mansion Avenue ,
Lighting and on motion by Conrad. seconded by Harris , same were adopted. un-
animously.
Following motion by Mitchell "That the City Attorney be
instructed to draft a resolution of' intention to install ornamental
lights on Main Street from ocean Ave to Mansion Avenue and provide
that 40% of the cost of said improvement be met from the General
Fund and that 60% be met by assessment against abutting property.
Motion seconded by Harris , put and lost by the following vote:
Ayes Councilmen: Mitchell, Harris
Noes Councilmen: Butcher, Conrad , Bowen.
Following motion by Conrad: "That the cost and. expense of
installing an ornamental lighting system on and along Main Street
from Ocean .Ave to Mansion Ave be met from the General Fund" seconded
by Butcher, put and carried by the following vote:
Ayes Councilmen:: Butcher, Conrad, Bowen.
Noes Councilmen: Mitchell, Harris
On motion°by Butcher seconded by Conrad the City Clerk was
Adv. for bids directed to advertise for sealed bids for the construction of an
ornamental lighting system on and along Main Street from Ocean Ave
to Mansion Ave in accordance with the City Engineer 's pland and.
specifications heretofore adopted. Bids to, be opened and. examined
on Monday lla.y 27th at the hour of 7:30 PM. Motion put and carried,
Councilman Mitchell voting No.

Playground The request of Sunt Ba.ldiwin of the Elementary sbhool for
UOO to help defray expense of supervisor of playgrounds
during summer season was referred to the M & P Committee
The proposal of the Huntington Beach Band to play on
Band Memorial day for the sum of $190 was on motion by Harris seconded
by Butcher referred to the Music and Promotion Committee with
full power to act.
On motion by Conrad. seconded by Harris the City Engineer was
Lookout tower directed to construct lookout tower on the Beach front , provided
for life guard s.6,tisf.actory permissimn could be obtained. from the Huntington
Beach Company .
On motion by Conrad seconded by Harris the City Clerk
S 0 Co. was instructed to convey the thanks of the City Council to the
cleaning beach Standard Oil Company for their assistance in keeping the beach
front front cleared of rubbish.
Meeting of The invitation of the Mayor of Anaheim to the Council to
Councilmen at attend a meeting of City Councilmen in Anaheim on May 14th, �
Anaheim Oclock P.M. was accepted. '

On motion by Conrad seconded by Mitchell the following
applications for license was approved;
License Wm T Lolire , restaurant 427 Main St.
Jack Ducommon, Luriicounter beach front,
Jack Ducommon, Lunch room 610 Ocean Ave.
On motion by Conrad seconded by Butcher the Bond of John R Lugo
was approved and ordered filed..
The Clerk read monthly reports of the City Treasurer, Clerk , 1
Reports police Judge , Chief of Police , Engineer and Health department
and on motion by Conrad seconded by Butcher same were anbroved as
read.
Remand On motion by Harris seconded by Mitchell the demand of the
American .Legion .for $1500 for July 4th celebration was approved, and
ordered paid.
On motion by Conrad seconded by Harris the City Attorney
Beach Front was directed. to petition the State Assembly and Senate to pass an
Act of the Legislature granting the City of Huntington Beach
certain beach and tide land. rihts similar to those granted the �\
d1ty of Newport Beach. CD
The Council adjourned until Monday May 27th at 7: 30 PM on
motion by Conrad. seconded by Harris.
