Councilman Conrad , chairman of the Music and. Promotion Committee informed the Council that his committee recommended that Auto Camp the auto camp buildings and equipment be sold. and moved , that the City Clerk be directed to advertise for bids . Motion seconded by Mitchell , .put and carried. Bids to be opened and examined on ,Monday { June loth at 7: 30 PM. - License Ord The Clerk gave license ordinance No . 327 its first reading 'rNo. 327 at this time. This being the time set by the Council and Clerk for opening Bids on Main and examining bids for the installation of an ornamental lighting St Lighting system along Main Street from Ocean Ave to Mansion Avenue , the Clerk opened and. read the following bids : A C RICE, Los Angeles , Calif. Council again called to order at 9: 15 PM all members present. On motion by Conrad, seconded by Harris , all bids were Award rejected except that of Pacific Engineering and Construction Co . and their bid accepted as being the lowest and best bid. Motion carried. by the following vote: Ayes Councilmen Butcher , Conrad, Mitchell , Harris , Bowen. Noes None On motion by Harris seconded by Conrad the City Attorney was Contract directed to prepare contract with the Pacific Engineering and Construction .Comnany for installation of lights at the price named. in their bid hereinbefore mentioned. Councilman Harris reported favorably on alteration to the Al�era.tion of police department offices at an estimated. cost of not to exceed. Police Dept 1 225.00 , and on motion by Conrad. seconded by Butcher the City office Engineer was directed to proceed with the work. Councilman Harris reported investigation of pier structure Pier still in progress. EnCD gineer Rosson recommended that large gatherings on the pier be discouraged. for the present. Playgtound On motion by Conrad, seconded by Mitchell an appropriation of supervisor g300 was allowed from the Music and. Promotion fund to help defray exoense of providing a, playground supervisor under the direction of the Superintendent of the Elementary School .for the summer season. 438 "z Mayor Bowen reported on the meeting of the Mayors and Councilmen of the Municipalities of Orange County held. at Anaheim Tuesday evening May 21st , and urged that other Councilmen Gas tax attend the next meeting. Mayor Bowen informed the Council that the principal topic now under investigation was the manner in which the Gasoline tax money was being distributed.. That while the incorporated. cities furnished. 70% of the tax money none of it was being used for road improvement inside city limits. The Clerk read a letter from the Mayor of Glendale, and others calling attention to a hearing before the railroad. commission to Phone rate consider the increase of telephone rates. Meeting to be held in the increase commissioner 's offices 810 associated Realty 'Build.ing, Los Angeles , June 7th at 10:00 o ' clock AM— The City Attorney was asked to re— present this city by addressing a, letter to Attorney R C 'Va.lth of Beverly Hills. H B News adv The request of the Huntington Beach News f.or renewal of contract advertising contract was referred to the Music and Promotion Committee. An offer to sell to the City two lots adjoining the City Yard Lot..- near for the sum of 8800, by Huston Suter and. Huston, selling agents city yard, was tabled, for the reason that the city is not in the market to nurchgse. On motion by Butcher secbnd.ed by Conrad the a.prlication of Earnest Dance Hall W Darnell to operate dance hall on Ocean front was approved. Dance hours The request of Mr Darnell that the hour of closing the dance hall referred to be set at 1:00 o 'clock AM on regular nights and later on special Police Chief occasions was referred to the Chief of Police for his recommendations. The verbal request of Geo K Noland, 1151 23rd St Newport Beach Games of chance for permission to conduct. game of chance or skill was referred to the City Attorney 'for investigation. W S Ebert On motion by Conrad seconded by Harris the appointment of IN S special officer Ebert as special police officer without pay, by the Chief of Police was approved. Bills On motion by Conrad seconded by Harris demands numbered 1310 and 1311 were approved and. ordered paid. This being the date set for hearing objections to the Weeds Street Superintendent ' s proposal to clean weeds from streets , alleys , and property, the . Clerk informed the Council that no written or verbal objections had been received. Additional Councilman Conrad recommended the employment of an additional life guard life guard during Sundays and holidays. On motion by Conrad seconded by Butcher the Chief of Police was instructed to engage an extra life guard to assist Mr Belshe during Sundays and holidays up to and. including Labor Day. Delinquent The Clerk was directed to prepare a list of delinquent derrick licenses derrick licenses and. submit to the Council at next meeting.
