i Pursuant to adjournment of July lst , the council was called to
order at 7:30 P . M. by Mayor Bowen.
Councilmen present; Bowen, Butcher, Conrad, Harris
absent: Mitchell
Butcher Clerk On motion by Conrad seconded. by Harris , Councilman Butcher was
pro=tem appointed Clerk of the Council pro=tem in the absence of the City
Clerk , C . R. Furr.
Pier The clerk announced. that the analysis of the pier extension pe-
tition had. not yet been completed.
Councilman Harris recommended that Engineer Thomas Berry be in-
vited to meet with the council at an early date to discuss repairs of
the pier. The council approved and invited Engineer Berry to be
present on Monday evening July 15th.
Engineer Rosson submitted a letter to the council stating that
Engineer Berryls charge for services would be $50. 00 per day plus ex-
penses for making an examination of the pier structure.
Salaries On recommendation of Engineer Rosson, the salary of Henry Wirth,
assistant Street Supt. was increased to $225. 00 per month. This on motion
by Conrad seconded by Harris , increase to become effective July lst , 1929 .
On suggestion by. Mayor Bowen the salary of Engineer Rosson was ,7
increased to $300.00 per month, this on motion by Conrad seconded by
Butcher , effective July 1st , 1929 .
License On motion by Butcher seconded by Harris the license application of
Van Fleet-Durkee Inc . to operate service station at 620 Ocean Ave. and.
that of Cora M. Coreaga, to operate lunch counter at 15th and. Walnut were
approved.
Patrolman The appointment of Thomas G. McFarland as patrolman by the Chief
of Police at a salary of 9150 per month to begin with was unanimously
approved.
Demands On motion by Harris seconded by Conrad demands 1561 to 1576 were
approved and ordered paid.
Tractor Mayor Bowen recommended the purchase of a tractor for street repairs .
Conrad, absence On motion by Harris seconded by Butcher , councilman Conrad was
granted leave of absence July 12th to August lst.
License The complaints of Mrs . B. M. Boreland, Bank Hotel and C. R. Rayner
Complaints towel service , against license charges were referred to committee com-
posed of Butcher and Conrad.
On motion by Conrad seconded by Harris the council adjourned until
7:.30 P. M. Monday July 15th , 1929 •
