City Hall , July 15th , 1929
Pursuant to adjournment of July 8th the council was ..called to
order at 7 :30 p m by Mayor Bowen.
Councilmen present.: Bowen, Butcher , Conrad., Mitchell , Harris .
absent : none.
Coast Road The Clerk read a letter from the State Road Dept. (Mr . S V
Cortelieu) . relative to grading and straightening a portion of the
Coast highway in the City limits . The letter was referred. to En-
gineer Rosson to investigate and furnish estimate of cost.
Street Engineer Rosson recommended. the purchase of a 30 ton tractor
Equipt . and scarifier for the Street Dept. On motion by Conrad seconded by
Mitchell the City Clerk was directed to advertise for bids for same.
R Hensley On motion by Conrad. seconded by Butcher the salary of R= Hensley,
on street sweeper was fixed at $150 per month with free house rent while
monthly roll occupying the house on the City Yard grounds now owned by the City.
This on recommendation by Engineer Rosson and to take effect July 1st ,
. 1929 .
License The application of Gladys Hagerman to operate a lunch roo,n at
17th and Main Sts . was approved on motion. by Conrad seconded by Butcher.
Camp Ground An Agreement to quit claim lease on the Municipal Auto Camp ground
quit claim was submitted by the Huntington Beach Company and. referred to the City
Attorney.
Name of The request of the Long Beach Chamber of ;Commerce for the Council
Coast Road to support the change of the name of the Coast boulevard to "The Seaside
Route" was referred to Councilman Mitchell for his recommendation.
Petitions The City Clerk submitted copies of petitions to have the Municipal
and Pier extended 500 feet , also copies of proposed budget as submitted by
Budget Fire Chief , Chief of police , City Controller and City Engineer , for the
period July lst , 1929 to June 30th, 1930.
Recess At this time , 8: 30 p m the Mayor• declared a recess to consider mat-
ters to be presented to the Council.
Council again called to order at 9 :10 p m, all members present .
Band The Music and promotion Committee reported on the proposal of the
Huntington Beach Band to play during the summer months , stating that the
offer had merits , but on account of the season being partly over , the
Committee recommended that the offer be declined. On motion by Harris
seconded by Butcher the recommendation was adopted.
Pier Repairs On motion b H r. s , seconded by Mitchell , Engineer Thomas Berry was
Engineer appointed. as Engineer at the salary of �350 per month begin-
ning July 16th to work jointly with City Engineer Rosson in making an
examination of the Municipal pier and. reoort on the cost of repair , also
the cost of a 500 foot extension. ,- . -Engineer Berry' s term of employment
to be at the pleasure of the Council .
Palladino Deed to Palladine for portions of lots 1 , 3 , 5 Block 301 not yet
presented by City Attorney.
On motion by Harris seconded by Conrad the Council adjourned until
7:30 -n m Monday July 22nd , 1929.
