City Hall , Aug 12th, 1929• 4.
1.
Pursuant to adjournment of August 5th, the Council was called
to or-der at 7:30 PM by Mayor Bowen;
Councilmen present ; Bowen, Butcher, Conrad, Mitchell , Harris.
C of C Mayor Bowen invited those in the audience having matters to
_bring before the Council to do so at this time.
Mr R C Turner submitted a written request and made a short talk r
Funds .for in support of the request that the City advance the Chamber of
celebration Commerce the sum of -300 to help defray expenses of celebration to
be held Saturday August 17th. Mr `turner said that the event was one
in which the entire City and nearby communities could take part
and be benefited.
After a short recess; On motion by Conrad seconded. by Mitchell
the request was granted upon the recommendation of the Music and
Promotion Committee.
A D Moodie On motion by Butcher seconded by Mitchell the surety bond of
bond 'A- D Moodie was approved and. ordered filed.
On motion by Mitchell seconded by Conrad the applications
License df. Jas Ballard for pool hall license at 117 Main St and that of
James Norman Fox to operate restaurant at 427 Main St were approved.
The Clerk read a copy letter from Engineer Rosson to the State
Re-Crossing Railroad Commission relative to crossing of P E tracks near 1st
near 1st St - street, also letter relative to request for removal of trees.
Same were accepted and ordered filed.
Chief of On motion by Butcher seconded by Harris the request of Chas
Police vacation D Steward for annual vacation of two weeks commencing September
lst was granted.
Reports On motion by Conrad seconded by Mitchell the monthly reports
of City Clerk and City 'Trea,surer were accepted and ordered filed.
Mayor Bowen The request of Mayor Bowen for leave of absence for not
910 day leave exceeding 90 days beginning August 22nd was granted on motion by
of absence Conrad seconded by Butcher, put and carried.
Demands Demands numbered 1704 to 1735 were approved and ordered paid.
On motion by Harris seconded by Conrad.
H T Faust The Clerk informed the Council that Mr H T Faust had on this
withdraws. appl. date telephoned request that his application to operate mint vending
slot machines machines be withdrawn. No action taken by the Council.
The City Attorney read a letter from Mr H' 0 Flemming, pres-
Re-Wallach ident of the Long Beach Labor Council relative to statement made
by Mr Chas Wallach before the Council August 5th. The letter was
ordered filed.
On motion by Harris seconded by Mitchell , the proposal of Mr
Chas Wallach to stage celebration in this City Labor Day was rejected.
This on recommendation of the Music & Promotion Committee.
The proposal of Mr Chas Crawford-'that the City run an advertisement
Adv in in the Santa Ana Times issue of August 17th was reported on favorably---
Santa Ana by the Music & Promotion Oommittee, and om motion by Harris seconded.
Times by Butcher an�" appropriation of 160 was made to cover one-half page,
copy to be prepared by the Times Adv. Dept and submitted for approval.
Conrad Mayor It was unanimously agreed that Councilman Conrad: act as Mayor
pro-tem pro-tem in the absence of Mayor Bowen.
On motion by Harris seconded by utche the Council adjourned.
