M I N U T E S.
> Monday Uct l4th, 1929
Pursuant to adjournment of October 7th, the Council was
called. to order at 7: 30 P M.
Councilmen present: Conrad,Butcher ,Mitchell ,Harris.
Absent Bowen.
On motion by Harris seconded by Butcher, Councilman Conrad
was appointed chairman .-pro-tem.
Chairman Conrad appointed Councilman Mitchell to act on
the Finance Committee.
Minutes The Clerk read the minutes of the Council for September 3rd
and October 7th and on motion by Butcher seconded- by Harris same
were approved as read.
Dr H K Sutherland addressed the Council relative to the
mosquito nuisance. Dr Sutherland informed the Council that the
area proposed. to be treated extended from Seal Beach to Balboa,
Mosquitoes inclusive and from the Ocean to a distance of approximately 5
mileVinland. That this area had an assessed valuation of about
$40 ,000,000.00 and that the amount necessary to carry on the
work would be about tlO,000 per year or an i.ncrea,se of about
3 cents per .g100 valuation.
That the proper pvocedure would be in accordance with State
laws which require petitions signed by 1011110 of the property to be
affected and. by the City Councilmen of the various municipalities
' included in the district.
The Chair appointed Councilmen Harris , Butcher and Mitchell
as a committee to investigate and report at next meeting.
The Music and. Promotion Committee reported favorable in `
the matter, off' employing a musical director , and on motion by
Band Butcher seconded by Harris , r)ut and carried )Yr James E Son
was appointed at a salary of .150 per month commencing October
lst , 1929 and to serve at the pleasure of the Council , also an
amount not to exceed 1150 was allowed for the purchase of music.
The request of the Chief of Police for a tl.Rro hour parking
Two hour limit to be placed on the first two blocks of Main Street and on
parking limit ',Valnut avenue from 3rd. to 5th Street way referred to the Council
as a. Committee of the whole to investigate and. report at next
meeting.
Engineer Rosson reported that the laps fox resurfacing
17th & Main 17th street and Main Street was progressing, . recommended
re-paving that the Huntington Beach Water Company be regi.tes'ted to renew its
water line along 17th Street from the subway to Palm Avenue
before the repaving job is started. The City Clerk was directed
to write the Water Company to that effect. Attorney Blodget was
asked to look up the law and. report back at next meeting.
Widening Engineer Rosson submitted a report to the effect that the
Main St. , parking in Main Street from l4th St to the City limits be re-
duced five feet on each side.
' In the matter of Pier repairs , Mr Rosson informed the Council
that Engineer Berry had adked for and received permission to be
Pier absent from Oct 7th to 28th and that a report would be ready im-
media.tely after his return.
The Clerk read monthly reports of the City Judge, City
Monthly reports Engineer , Chief of Police, Health Officer, Clerk and Treasurer ,
and on motion by Mitchell seconded by Harris same were accepted
and ordered filed.
On motion by Mitchell seconded by Butcher -the following
Licenses applications for license were approved and ordered. issued..

Gene Belshe The Clerk read an application from Gene Belshe former life
guard asking to be placed in the employ of the fire department.
No action was . taken.
Base Ball The application of D 0 Stewart for .$50 to help defray expenses
of base ball was approve&,and ordered paid.
Attorney Blodget made a verbal report of the meeting of the
Telephone Rail road Commission with citizens at New Westminister. His
Exchange opinion being that all the citizens desired was good. telephone
service and. that- only a few were in favor of a separate exchange.
Deizands On motion by Butcher seconded. by Harris demands numbered
1875 to 2001 were approved and ordered paid..
A request signed by Jas E Son and `?I H Gallienne asking for
Band 8250 to help defray expense of band. for Armistice day was referred
to Butcher , Harris and. Blod.get with power to act.
Oh mdtton by Butcher seconded by Harris the Council
adjourned until Yonday October 29th, 7: 30 PM.
