On• motion by Harris seconded by Mitchell the minutes of the Council meetings of November 4th and l8th were approved. The Clerk read. petitions signed b rdpert owners and citizens Petitions Re p g y p y oil plant odors living in the vicinity of 17th & Delaware streets complaining against disagreeable odors corning from nearby road akl refineries. The Clerk was directed to advise a representative of petitioners that the matter was being taken up with the Orange County Supervisors. Bakery license on motion by Conr.a.d seconded by Butch.er 'the. application of R F McMahon for license to operate bakery at 112 Main St was approved.. On motion by Harris seconded by Butcher the City Clerk was Fire hose directed to advertise for bids for furnishing the City Fire Dept. with 800 feet of 2111. double jacketed rubber lined fire hose. Engineer Rosson informed the Council that the matter of securing 5 stip permission to reduce Main Street parking 5 feet on each side , from Main St. 14th St. to City limits had been referred to the San Francisco office of the Huntington Beach Co by Mr Lawshe and that Mr Lawshe assured the City that the request would be granted.' Lamp contract Lamp contract for period Dec lst 1929 to Dec lst 1930 sub— mitted by Edison Lama Co was referred to the City Attorney. Monthly Monthly reports of City Treasurer , City Clerk , Judge , Chief of Reports Police and City Engineer were read. by the Clerk and on motion by Harris- seconded by Mitchell were approved and ordered filed. U Dangerous oil Engineer Rosson submitted a, report covering oil derricks in derricks danger of collapsing as follows : (1) Derrick on NE corner of 14th & walnut , known as Young and Lundberg: ( 2) Derrick on lots 5 and 6 Bl 111 , Eureka Petroleum , Co. (3 Derrick located on lots 9 and. 10 Bl 812, T B Turner. (4� Derrick on Lots 20 to 23 Bl 812, Na.tl Petroleum Co. On motion by Conrad seconded by Mitchell , the City Engineer and City Attorney were directed. to take summary action to abate the nuisance caused by the existance of derrick 16bated at the NE corner of 14th and Walnut and derrick located on lots 5- and.. 6 B1 ill. Ord # 329 Dangerous d.erricksm The Clerk gave Ordinance No. 329 its first reading. On motion by Conrad seconded by Harris the City Clerk was Codifying authorized to employ a clerk and. stenographer temporarily for the Ordinances purpose of- preparing ordinances for thg printer. Final draft to be inspected and passed upon by the City Attorney. } On motion by Harris seconded by Butcher J H Macklin was Macklin allowed the sum of $15. 83 in full payment of damage suffered. .on account sewer connection ih or near Block 301. Payment to be made upon signed. demand of Mr Macklin. Pier rep,ort The Clerk read report of . Engineer Rosson and. assistant Engineer Thomas Berry relative to condition of the municipal Pier. On motion by Conrad, seconded by Butcher the report was accepted and ordered placed on file . Friday Dec 6th at 7: 30 pm was the date set for the Council to meet and. discuss this report. Waste water Engineer Rosson .made a verbal report of the proceedings of the special meeting called to discuss the problem of waste water disposal in the local oil field.. Meeting was held on Nov 27th in ' the Council Chamber and was conducted by interested oil operators. Ifayor Bowen submitted. and read. a letter which he ha,d prepared to mail oil operators , which was approved. Superior Oil Co The a.pnlication of the Superior Oil Co to install and waste water line operate a waste water line in the vicinity of 22nd street , was on motion by Conrad_ seconded by Mitchell tabled. - Demands On motion by Conrad seconded by Mitchell , demands numbered 2118 to 2223 were approved. and. ordered paid. 61 Upon recommendation of. the Music and Promotion Committee Advertising motion was made by Harris and. seconded by Butcher the the City run a half page advertisement in the Long Beach press-Telegram's Midwinter edition at a, cost of 8225.00 On motion by Conrad seconded by Harris the Clerk was directed Mosquitoes to write the Health . Department asking that they undertake the abatement of the mosquito nuisance and that they make application to the Board of Supervisors for funds to cover the expense.
