HomeMy WebLinkAbout1930-03-17 470 M I N U T E S City Hall Monday March 17th, 1930 Pursuant to adjournment of March 3rd, the City Council was called to order at 7:30 P M by Mayor Bowen. Councilmen present: Bowen,Butcher;Coprad,Mitchell, Harris. Councilmen absent : None. --The --Clerk read the application of -Stevely & Gooden for per— mission to run guy wires either across a street or install guy wires Derrick shorter than called for in city ordinances for the reason that the x guying lease was only 50 x 11711F feet and too small for regulation guying. The application was referred back to the City Engineer and the structure changes to steel instead of wood, whereupon same was approved on motion by Conrad seconded by Harris. W R Osborne president of the Chamber- of Commerce, addressed the Beach Council and asked that the beach front from the Pier to 2nd Street be y Cleaning cleaned before April 12th. The request was approved on motion by Butcher seconded by Harris. - Mr Brooks of the Huntington Beach High School informed the Council that negotiations were- in progress to secure a lease on Huntington Golf Course Beach Company grounds for a golf course near the High School, and that the City would likely be called upon to assist in financing the work in the near future. The application of H Giesner to erect wooden derrick on the H Giesner, Van Allen lease, lots 5,7,9 _& 11, Block 518 where fire had recently. wood derrick destroyed the derrick, was on motion by Butcher seconded by Harris referred back to 'City Engineer Rosson. Engineer Rosson submitted a letter and plan for base ball. grounds on Ocean Ave east of 1st street and informed the Council that Base Ball. a lease could be had from the Huntington Beach Company. That the improvements would cost -approximately 41,000 together with the equipment now in use in Block 504. On motion by Harris seconded by Butcher the City Engineer was authorized to proceed with the work in accordance with his plans. Lease for . On motion by Conrad seconded by Butcher the Clerk was directed base ball to ask the Huntington Beach Company to submit lease for base ball grounds grounds on Ocean_ Ave east of lst St. The application of Foster - and Rleiser to erect 50 x 10 ft sign Sign Boards board on Ocean Ave between 6th and. 7th street was denied, and the Ocean Ave . action of Engineer Rosson in denying the permit wasc"approved and highly commended, on motion by Conrad seconded by Mitchell. License On motion by Conrad seconded by Butcher the application of Raitts Dairy for Dairy license and Al G'S Minstrel show were. approved. Beach Front The Clerk read a letter from Jas S Lawshe relative to purchase of beach front to the effect that & conference was being arranged ` between city and Huntington Beach Company officials. Restrictions Mayor Bowen recommended that an ordinance be passed restricting Oil against oil well drilling within 600 feet of the property of the beach front between 9th street and the easterly city limits. On motion by Conrad seconded by Butcher, attorney Blodget was directed to draft such an ordinance. On motion by Conrad seconded by Mitchell the council voted to Band allow an amount not in excess of $6.00 per month to be used to defray traveling expense of the municipal band members. - Mining Bureau The Clerk read a letter from the State Division of Mines and objects to Minerals in which formal objections were made against the Cityls derricks being action and intention to demolish derrick located on Lots 20,21,22 and demolished 23 Block 812 and lots 7,5,9 and 10 Block 912, both in Wesley Park Tract, Huntington Beach. No - action taken. This being the date set for opening and examining bids for furnishing the City Police Department and City Fire Department each with an.�. automobile',: the following bids were opened and examined: 476 police-Department Wynn Chevrolet' Co. , . Ayes Councilmen Butcher, Conrad, Mitchell, Harris, Bowen. Noes Councilmen None On motion by Conrad seconded by Harris all bids for furnishing the City Police Department with a car were rejected except the 'bid of Wynn Chevrolet Co at their bid of $799.00 and said bid was accepted by the following vote: Ayes Councilmen Butcher, Conrad, Mitchell , Harris , Bowen. Noes Councilmen None Junk Yard On motion by Butcher seconded by Conrad the application RRf Maas Schenfield to operate Junk Yard on lots 27 and 28 V D M Tfact was approved. Oil Sump Action on matter of oil sump in Block 913 was deferred pending owner's promise to clean up and make safe._ On motion by Harris seconded by. Butcher demands approved by the Finance Committee were ordered paid. No action was taken relative to matter of City of Long Beach taking water from .Orange County pending,. further information. Action on the formation of a planning Commission deferred to a later date. On motion by Conrad beconded by Harris the Council adjourned until. . 5:00 p m Tuesday March 18th, 1930.
