M I N U T E S
City Hall, June 4th, 1930
Pursuant to adjournment of June 2nd, the Council was called to
order at 7:30 pm by Mayor Bowen.

Councilmen present: Bowen, Butcher , Conrad, Stevens , King.
Councilmen absent : None
Mr Mackie, representing the National Lumber Men' s Association
addressed the Council and opposed the adoption of Ordinance No 332,
Derrick claiming that it discriminated against the lumber industry. Mr
Ordinate
W A Greer, Manager of the Associated Oil Co informed the Council >
that he believed steel derricks were safer in congested areas. The
same opinion was expressed by Fire Chief J K Sargent.
Linden A Wells objected to several paragraphs of the Ordinance
on the grounds that same was unnecessary and opposed the adoption of
the ordinance.
On motion by Conrad seconded by King, Ordinance No 332, re—
Ord No. 332 gulating the construction and operation of oil derricks , was passed
and adopted by the following vote:
Ayes Councilmen: Butcher, Conrad, Stevens , King, Bowen,,
Noes Councilmen None
Absent Councilmen: None
W A Greer informed the Council that he wished to withdraw request
for funds for the erection of a Boy Scout' s Cabin. He was allowed to
do so. The matter of securing employment for. Howard Phillips , who
Boy Scouts
desires to use his spare time in the promotion of Boy Scout activities ,
was referred to Engineer Rosson with authority to place Mr Phillips ,

if needed, on the city pay. roll.
On motion by Stevens seconded by Butcher the Music and Promotion
July 4th Committee was instructed to confer further in the matter of the 4th
of July celebration.
The Music and promotion Committee reported favorably on the
application of the Chamber of Commerce for $113.45 to defray expense IlkAdvertising
of advertising folders. On motion by Conrad seconded by Stevens the
action of the Music and Promotion Committee was ratified.
The recommendation of the Music and Promotion Committee that
ConcertA the City stand the expense of three musical concerts , one each June
22nd, 29th and July 6th, was on motion by Butcher seconded by Stevens
approved and adopted.
The Music and Promotion Committee , after discussing the matter
July 4th mouth officers of the American Legion Post, recommended that a 4th
of July celebration be held in this City under the direction of the
American Legion andthat the City appropriate: $1,700.00 to cover

the expense. On motion by Butcher seconded by King the Committee ' s
report was accepted and adopted.
Mr Austin of the American Legion asked permission of the Council
July 4th to stage a Rodeo on the base ball grounds July 4th. The Council ex—
Rodeo
pressed its willingness, provided the base ball club consented, and
provided that the Legion cover with adequate liability insurance.
Attorney Blodget stated that he had no report at this time re—
Beach Front garding acquisition of the ocean front, other than that he was making
progress with the preliminary investigation.
Dangerous On motion by Conrad seconded by Butcher, Engineer Rosson was
Derrick to take such action as may be necessary
directed/=to have derrick on lots 1;-.and 2 Block 116 made safe.
The Council adjourned until 7:30 p m Monday June 23rd, 1930.
