HomeMy WebLinkAbout1930-08-11 '09 MINUTES City Hall, August llth, 1930 Pursuant to adjournment, the Council was called to order at 10: 10 A,.M by .Mayor Bowen. Councilmen present: Bowen, Butcher , Conrad, King Councilmen absent : Stevens Dr K H Sutherland of the Health Dept, presented and read a report of the analyses of the city water , which analyses had hereto- fore` been submitted by the Griffin-Has.sen Laboratories of Los Angeles. Analyses The main point of Dr. Sutherland' s report was to the effect that the City Water presence of B. Coli amounting to . 15 per cubic centimeter (as shown in the Griffin-Hassen report) was not dangerous to health. Dr. gutherland stated, however, that the chemical analyses showed that certain mineral elements present were in excess of standards set by the Advisory Committee on Drinking Water Standards of the American Public Health Association. On motion by King seconded by Conrad the report was accepted and ordered filed, and the Clerk directed to secure a copy of the chemical analyses of water from nearby cities. The Clerk informed the Council that Mr H V Anderson of the American States Water Service Company had volunteered to furnish the City with their analyses of Huntington Beach water, and that his Company was anxious to co-operate with the City in the investigation. The Clerk gave Ordinance No 337,' oil well drilling its secand Ord 337 and last reading. On motion by Conrad seconded by Butcher Ordinance No 337 was passed and adopted by the following vote Ayes Butcher, Conrad, King, Bowen Noes None Absent Stevens. At this time 12 noon, the Council recessed until 2:00 o ' clock PM. The Council again called to order at 2:00 61clock PM, Recess Councilmen present: Bowen, Butcher, Conrad, Stevens , King. r Councilmen absent : None. Demands On motion by Stevens seconded by King, demands approved by the Finance Committee were approved and ordered paid. Engineer Rosson informed the Council that oil derrick on lots Dangerous 20 21 22 23 Block 812 had been dismantled and that the work of derricks ' ' ' demolishing other dangerous structures in the same vicinity was progressing. Ord 3 9 The Clerk gave Ordinance No 339 City Judge Salary and Ord. 340, Ord 340 dance halls their first reading. 5AO The Clerk presented a referendum petition protesting against Ord. No 336, dance hall ordinance , and appended thereto the Clerk' s Petition certificate. 'the Chair announced that insomuch as the objectionable against dance hall section had been repealed by Ordinance No. 340, it would be proper to receive and file the petition. By unanimous consent of the Council the petition was ordered filed. Pier Tram The matter of a contract with John Cusolito to operate tram on the pier was again referred to the Beach and Pier Committee. The Clerk presented the annual budget covering period July lst Budget 1930 to June 30th, 1931 and on motion by Conrad seconded by Butcher same was approved by the Council. The request of Mr Chas. Crawford that the City consider Advertising advertising in the annual edition of the Santa Ana Times was referred to the Music and Promotion Committee. The Clerk read ordinance No 338, calling a special election to Ord 338 vote on certain oil-well and derrick regulations , and on motion by Conrad seconded by Butcher Ordinance No. 338 was passed and adopted by the following vote; Ayes Butcher, Conrad, Stevens, King, Bowen Noes None. A ES' ; City Clerk. a i T BOARD OF EQUALIZATION MIIIUTES y City Hall, Monday August llth, 1930 The Annual meeting of the Board of Equalization was called to order at 10:00, o ' clock A M, Monday August llth, 19302 by Chairman S n Bowen; Members Present: S R Bowen, Bayard Butcher, Elson G Conrad, C H King Member absent: E B Stevens. There being no objections to assessments made by City Assessor, the Board recessed to 2:30 P M, same date. Board again called to order at 2:30 P M, Monday August llth. Members present: Bowen, Butcher, Conrad, Stevens and King.
