HomeMy WebLinkAbout1930-09-02 514 M I N U T E S City Hall , Tuesday Sept 2nd, 1930 The regular meeting of the City Council was called to order at 7:30 P M by Mayor Bowen. Councilmen present: Bowen, Conrad, Stevens, King Councilmen absent :Butcher , Mayor Bowen appointed Councilman King to act on the Finance Committee in the absence of Councilman Butcher. 'Councilman Butcher arrived at 8:00 o ' clock P M Minutes On motion by Conrad seconded by Butcher, Minutes of meetings of- the Council for the month of Augus6 were approved. On motion by Conrad seconded by King the City Engineer was Derrick authorized and directed to proceed at once with action to abate a Block 812 nuisance, namely dangerous derrick located on or about lots 12,14,16,18 Block 812. Paving Ocean Ave. Action relative to paving strip on Ocean Ave was deferred. Councilman Butcher reported that an examination of chemical Water analyses of water used in Huntington Beach and Newport Beach were analyses substantially the same. Councilman Butcher .and his committee were asked to continue their investigation. Attorney Blodget informed the Council that he had received no reply to his letter to the S P Ry requesting a wig-wag signal at their Wig-Wag S P Ocean crossing near 1st St and Ocean Ave, but that the State Railroad Com- Ave. mission had replied to the effect that they would investigate the matter at once. Ord 341 The Clerk gave Ordinance 341 , tenting on the beach, its first reading at this time. Engineer Rosson submitted preliminary plans and estimates of cost Repaving for the improvement of Wesley Ave, Quincey St, Crest Ave, loth St and Indianapolis St. On motion by Conrad seconded by -Butcher Engineer Rosson was directed to prepare formal plans and specifications for improving these streets in accordance with the above named recommendations , also to establish grades on same. 4 Attorney Blodget submitted and. read a proposed complaint relative Beach Title to acquisition of beach front within the City, and on motion by Conrad k, suit seconded by Butcher, the May was authorized and directed to sign the complaint, City of Huntington Beach vs Huntington Beach Company and others , and the '-City Attorney directed to file same. r / i Engineer Rosson informed the Council that he was investigating the Pier Tram advisability of allowing a passenger tram to be operated on the Municipal pier. . On motion by Stevens seconded by Butcher, demands as approved by the Demands Finance Committee were ordered paid.. Application of Gene Belshe for position on Police or Fire Dept force Gene Belshe was referred to Police and Fire Committee. Engineer Rosson submitted a list of cars and equipment needed for St. Dept new the street department. equipment On motion by Conrad seconded by Butcher the City Clerk was directed to advertise for bids for furnishing the City with one Ford Coupe, seller to take as part payment 1927 Buick roadster, and for one Ford roadster. On motion by Conrad seconded by King the City Clerk was directed to advertise for bids for furnishing the City with one heavy duty 4 or 5 ton grader, one light dtty road disc and one light duty spring- tooth cultivator, and seller to take as parrt payment certain used road equipment y now owned by the City, and to be designated by the City Engineer. Lawn mower On motion by Conrad seconded by Stevens the request for a power referred to Parks Com. lawn mower was referred to the Streets and Parks committee. C D Steward The request of Chief C D Steward for two weeks' leave of absence and leave of the appointment of Earl A Shaffer as acting Chief was on motion by Conrad absence seconded by Butcher approved and. confirmed. Reports The City Clerk read monthly reports of the Chief of Police, City Judge, City Engineer, City Health Dept, City Clerk and City Treasurer, and on motion by King seconded by Conrad same were accepted and ordered filed. License The application of Golden Bear Dairies to erect concrete store building on Lot 6 Block 104 was approved on motion by Conrad seconded by King. On motion by King seconded by Conrad, C G Goode was given permission Gas storage tank to install gasoline storage tank on lot .2 Block 1$02. Inn license The application for hotel license by W N Wright, Huntington Inn, . was on motion by Conrad seconded by Butcher approved. The Clerk read Resolution No 633 fixing the tax rate for fiscal year RESO 633 1930-31, and on motion by Conrad seconded by Butcher Resolution No 633 was passed and adopted by the following vote; Ayes Councilmen Conrad, Butcher , Stevens , King, Bowen. Noes Councilmen None The application of e.) Harvey Walker for renewal of lease of pier Pier Concession ' Walker concession was referred to Beach & Pier Committee. 1 r 516' Oil field The matter of employing J Tinsley as oil field watchman was referred watchman to the Police and Fire Committee.
