HomeMy WebLinkAbout1930-11-17 •„a M I N U T E S City Hall, Monday Nov 17th, 1930 Pursuant to adjournment of November 3rd, the City Council met and was called to order at 7:30 PM by Mayor Bowen. Councilmen Present; Bowen, Butcher, Conrad, Stevens , King. Councilmen Absent; None Christmaa Willis H Warner representing the Business Men's Association appeared before St. Decorationthe Council with the request that the City assist in decorating the business sections for the Christmas season. On motion by King seconded by Stevens the Council authorized the expenditure of labor and expense the same as last year , and upon request of Mr Warner, added Ocean Avenue from 3rd to 5th Streets. The City's contribution to consist of labor and material in string wire and paying for electricity. The Clerk read a letter from Willis Osborn, President of the Chamber of C of C Commerce relative to advertising and askrigf that the City contribute the sum Adv. Funds of $800.00 for printing 20,000 two-color folders, $325.00 for engraving and art work, 150.00 for photographing, 725.00 for Miscellaneous Advertising fund also the sum of $500.00 for staging a pier celebration in the event the Council sees fit to have the Chamber of Commerce handle the celebration. On motion by Conrad seconded by Stevens , the matter was referred to the Music and Promotion Committee. This being the date set by the City Clerk and Council for opening and examining bids for the improvement of Crest Ave, loth St, Wesley Ave , Quincey Street-, Indianapolis .Street and Utica Street, the Clerk opened and read the following bids. East Side Engineer Rosson was directed to secure written proposal from Southern lighting California Edison Company re— east side lighting. Bond On motion by Conrad seconded by Butcher the bond of R & G Electric Co. was 'r accepted and ordered filed. No action on application for improvements of horseshoe grounds in triangle park. L. B. Christmas The Clerk was directed to acknowledge receipt of invitation of the L B festivities Chamber of Commerce to attend Christmas festivities. On motion by Stevens seconded by King application for license for cafe License 412 Ocean Ave was approved. Demands approved by the Finance Committee were approved and ordered paid on Demands motion by King seconded by Stevens. Tax Sales Attorney Blodget was asked to look up law on read. property tax sales and 1 report. Water Councilman Butcher made a favorable report concerning domestic water. Attorney Blodget informed the Council that he appeared before the Court in Beach drillin gSa.n Bernardino on Nov 12th relative to ocean drilling, that no decision was rendered. Attorney Blodget stated that he was in receipt of reply from Attorney of llth St the Huntington Beach_ Co relative to closing entrance to llth street on tbeOcean Closing front. That the matter was still being investigated. Attorney Blodget presented, and the Clerk read agreement with the Memorial American Legion Joseph Rodman Post for the furnishing and construction of the Hall new Memorial Hall, and on motion by Stevens seconded by Butcher the Mayor and City Clerk were authorized to execute same on behalf of the City of Huntington Beach.
