HomeMy WebLinkAbout1931-01-0512 M I N U T E S City Hall, Jan 5th, 1931 The Council was called to order at 7:30 pM by Mayor Bowen. Councilmen present; Bowen, Butcher, Conrad, Stevens, King. Councilmen absent; None Minutes On motion by Conrad seconded by King minutes for Dec 1st, 2nd and 15th were approved. Engineer Ronson submitted plans and specifications for addition Memorial Hall to and reconstruction of the City Auditorium and recommended their Y plans adopted adoption. Commander Gray of the local post American Legion stated that same were approved by the Legion Committee. On motion by Conrad seconded by Butcher plans and specifications drawn by Schilling and Schilling and submitted by Engineer Rosson were approved and adopted, and the City Clerk directed to advertise for bids for construction work. Bids to cover separately the various items such as plumbing, painting, electric work etc, and bids to be opened and examined Monday February 2nd, 1931 at 7:30 PM. The Clerk read Resolution No 637 relative to paving 20 foot strip .* RESO 637 along Ocean Ave, and on motion by Conrad seconded by Butcher same was Ocean Ave passed and adopted unanimously, and the City Engineer directed to mail copy to State Highway Commission and to the County Board of y Supervisors. The Clerk was directed, on motion by Conrad seconded by Butcher, Additional to communicate with the Mills Land and Water Company and inform the y land for widening Oceancompany that the City Council accepts its offer to sell a strip con-;_ Ave. sisting of approximately 32 acres along Ocean Ave for the sure of $5,000.00. That deed and written offer be sent to a Huntington Beach Bank for execution by the City. The Engineer was directed to get in touch with the secretary of Horseshoe Bldg. the Horseshoe Club and call on Schilling & Schilling relative to plans for the improvement sought by the Club. Engineer Rosson informed the -Council that before Frankfort Street D 0 Stewart bldgs on Sts could be improved it would be necessary to have a portion of truck garden and small buildings owned by D 0 Stewart removed. On mo'tion by King seconded by Conrad the Clerk was directed to notify Mr Stewart to remove same immediately. The Clerk *was directed to ascertain if lots now deeded to the Lands deeded -to City city are also deeded to the State. Ord #31;-2 Ordinance No 342 amending tax ordinances was given first Taxes reading at this time. Matter of reappraising lots was deferred to next meeting of Lot `! appraisal the Council. pier Engineer Rosson reported satisfactory progress in pier construction. 7' Engineer Rosson was directed to notify the Superior Oil Gaso plant Company that their permit for building gasoline refinery had expired and a new one would have to be secured before starting construction. The Clerk was directed to notify the Association of the Councills acceptance. - Application of Harry W Beatty for bait concession on the pier Pier bait was referred to the Beach and Pier Committee. concession Application for license by Wm L Brewer to operate doughnut Do -nuts bakery at 306 Walnut was Approved on motion by King seconded by Conrad. The Clerk read monthly reports of the City Clerk, Treasurer, Reports Judge, Chief of police and Health Dept and on motion by Conrad seconded by King same were approved. On motion by Conrad seconded by Stevens the request of C P Heater for Patton member of the Library Board for new furnace heater in the library library was approved. Cost not to exceed $400.00 The Clerk presented a copy of annual report booklet prepared L Book e t by City of Signal Hill and suggested that something of the,, sort would be appropriate for the city. Matter referred to Music and y Promotion Committee. 14 -Face 3 - m u'res defy r /"j .� Demands On motion by Stevens, seconded by King, demands approved by the Finance Committee were approved and ordered paid. Mayor Bowen addressed the Council relative to the employment W R Osborne of an Advertising Manager who was in position to attend the Adv Mgt. various city and county public meetings and recommended W R Osborne for the position. On motion by Conrad seconded by Stevens Mr Osborne was appointed to the position of Advertising Manager at a salary of 475.00 per month commencing Jan lst, 1931 and to serve at the pleasure of the Council. Advertising Manager May S Jackson was by the same motion made assistant advertising manager and to remain on salary of 5100.00 per month until dis- continued by the Council.
