The matter of Fire Insurance for the new Memorial Hall building, and bther city structures was discussed by the Council and representatives from Fire Ins. various insurance companies at the conclusion of which the City Clerk was directed to investigate further with a view of calling for sealed bids for all fire insurance. The matter of awarding contract for painting the Memorial Hall was Painting bids deferred until Monday March 9th, 7:30 PM. O '} `mace z _ (') nu77e Architect Schilling informed the Council that the low bidder Horseshoe for the construction of the I-iorseshoe Clubhouse was Wm J Esser and Club recommended that he be awarded the contract at his bid of $3,150.00 as amended by alternate No 1 at 100.00 and alternate No 2 at $375.00,total $3,625.00. On motion by Conrad seconded by Stevens the bid of Wm J Esser was accepted and all other bids rejected. Architect Schilling recommended that the Horseshoe Club House Location of be erected near the corner of 5th Street and Magnolia Ave on Horseshoe account of the probability of'a new post office building being Club erected on Block 405. Action deferred until next meeting. Pier sun On motion by Conrad seconded by King, Engineer Rosson was parlor directed to construct septic tank to take care of sun parlor on the Municipal Pier. Beacon light The matter of installation of beacon light on the pier was tabled. The following motion by King seconded by Conrad "That it is the determination of -Yae City Council that derrick located on lots Derrick 16 and 18 Block 813 is I dangerous structure and constitutes a public 16,18.B1 813 nuisance and the Street Superintendent is hereby directed to summarily abate same" Motion put and carried unanimously. Following motion by Conrad seconded by Butcher"That the Street Superintendent be instructed to withold action in the Derrick lots demolition of derrick located on lots 13,14,15 Block 813 W P Tract 13214,15 until 9 AM March 4th, to allow owner to start the work of making Bl 813 the structure safe" Motion put and carried unanimously. On motion by Conrad seconded by King the License departiment License was directed to issue business license to the Good Will Industries,. 217 Main Street and that the license fee be remitted. The City Attorney was directed to draw Weed Cleaning Weeds- Resolution and confer with the Street Superintendent relative to area to be covered. Wharfinger The application of J R Brady for position of Wharfinger on the Pier was referred to the Pier and Beach Committee. r. City Attorney BlodZD get informed the Council that in as much Water Co as the line being run by the American States Water Cc across Main permit and 6th Streets was for the City service there was no payment of permit required. The Clerk read a petition signed by a number of residents in Tract 12, protesting against the erection and operation of an oil Oil plant cleaning plant in that vicinity. Tract 12 The communication was filed and the petitioners informed that no permit had yet been requested of the Council. The Clerk read a number of bids from property owners in the _ Frankfort line of the proposed Frankfort Street cut-off, same being a cut-off reduction from.offers submitted Feb 3rd, 1931. No action..taken, pending a reply from the Huntington Beach Company. The application of Five Points Junk and Salvage Company to License collect junk within the city limits was referred to the Chief of Police for his recommendations at next meeting. On motion by King seconded by Conrad -the application of Cafe C F Holzafpel to construct building on lot 6 Block 104 was granted under the supervision of the building inspector. On motion by Conrad seconded by Butcher the Shasta Oil Co was given permission to erect steel oil derrick on lot 1 Bl 1903 Derrick Tract 12 and the D & D Oil Company to install oil service tank on lot 9 B1 620 for company use only. The Clerk read a petition signed by a.number of east side Opening residents asking that Joliet Street be opened and improved through Joliet St. to Hampshire Ave. Matter referred to Engineer Rosson for report. 6 1 J _-W [l 'A D 1 The Clerk submitted deed and certificate of title covering 40 foot Deed to strip Ocean Ave strip along Ocean Ave, easterly city limits to be used for widening Ocean widening Avenue. Same being approved by the City Attorney was ordered filed. On motion by Conrad seconded by King, Attorney Blodget was requested 'League of Municip- to communicate with State representatives and urge the passage of Senate alities letter Bills 52 and 53, relative to damage suits on account of defective streets. On motion by King seconded by Stevens, demands approved by the Demands Finance Committee were ordered paid. Adv Matter of advertising in the Long Beach Sun annual edition was LBSun referred to the Music and Promotion Committee for report at next meeting.
