M I N U T E S Tuesday April 7th, 1931 Pursuant to adjournment of April 6th the Council was called to order at;1:30 PM by Mayor Bowen. Councilmen present: Bowen, Butcher, Conrad, Stevens, King. Councilmen absent: None On motion by Conrad seconded by King, the City Clerk was authorized and directed to purchase from EVERET G. FORD a single man and ALTA I. 30 ft strip FORD REED formerly ALTA I. FORD, the north 30 feet of Lots A and B, � Joliet Block 908 Vista Del Mar Tract Section 7, Huntington Beach ( a strip ti' IFO 1 30 feet by 300 feet) for the sum of $500.00 cash. That the Superintendent of Streets be directed to survey and grade said strip'to be used for street purposes. The Chair at this time 1:40 PM declared a short recess for the Redess purpose of considering the resignation of Engineer Rosson also the appointment of a, successor. Council again called to order at 2:05 PM,all members of the Council present. - Following motion by Conrad "That the resignation of Merwin Rosson as City Engineer, Superintendent of Streets, Building Inspector, Plumbing Inspector, Electric Inspector and Weigh Master be accepted same to take effect as of April 7th, 1931, and that Mr Rosson be paid one month's salary in full compensation of services rendered to this date. Motion seconded by King, put and carried unanimously. On motion by Stevens, seconded by Conrad-, Henry Wirth was appointed Wirth St Supt. Superintendent of Streets to serve at the pleasure of the Council. Motion put and carried unanimously. On motion by Conrad seconded by King, Henry Wirth was appointed Wirth Weigh Master at the salary of $ 25.00 per month, to serve at the pleasure Weigh Master of the Council. Motion put and carried unanimously. Ci : ' Engineer ntment .z v cess Then followed a heated discussion relative to the appointment of a City Engineer. Motions were made and seconded and withdrawn in rapid succession without any particular regard to Rules of Order. The discussion ended somewhat in confusion by Mayor Bowen stating that he believed he would submit his resignation as Mayor, whereupon he hurriedly wrote out the following, addressed to the City Council: "I hereby resign as your Mayor and Councilman, same to take effect immediately" with instructions to the Clerk to file the document. In the meantime Councilman Conrad had left the Council table. Councilman Butcher then moved a short recess which was seconded by King put by the Clerk and carried. Chairman Bowen then announced that he Mould receive nominations for City Engineer, whereupon Councilman Conrad offered the name of Henry Wirth which was seconded by King. On motion by Stevens seconded by King the nom-inatiens were closed. Councilmen Butcher then moved that Henry Wirth be appointed City Engineer,which was seconded by Stevens, then followed, a disoucsion relative to salary to be paid, whioh was interrupted by Mayor Bowes who stated that he believed he would resign, this he proceeded to do and following Councilman Conrad they both left the Council table. No vote being taken on the qquestion. Moved by Butcher seconded by King that a short recess be had, question put by the Clerk and carried. Council again called to order at 3:20 Pi':, by hayor Boren, all Councilmen present. i 3S i�aC- e- a - r%/ n u Memorial Hall Stage Approved Demands Architect Schilling submitted revised plans for reconstruction and chanL;es in construction of the t:;emorial Hall Stage, stating that same would cost the sure of $1,462.00, and would_ include raising floors of dressing rooms, moving and installing two main doors of exit, widening stage 6 feet, changes in plumbing, wiring for installation of disappearing foot lights. On motion by Conrad seconded by King the work was authorized and Architect Schilling & Schilling directed to proceed with the work, cost not to exceed_ �1,462.00. On motion by King seconded by Stevens demands approved by the Finance Committee were approved and ordered paid. On motion by Conrad seconded. by King the Council adjourned until 7:30 PM Monday April 13th, 1931. the City Council. r City Clerk. i
